A CAPITAL FOR CONNOISSEURS.
In Graz you’ll find a ‘Veal District’, ‘Flour Square’, ‘Tomato
Street’... and it’s no coincidence that at every turn you come
across references to food. The local people’s passion for enjoyment
even forms part of the city’s history, as shown in the range
of wonderful recipes that appear in the city’s oldest cookbook –
the very first cookbook to be printed in Austria, dating from 1686.
But what is it today that makes the city Austria’s ‘Capital of Delight’
– a recently awarded official title? Is it the southern way of
life appealing to all of your senses - and particularly your appetite?
Is it the region’s mild climate, which makes fruit, vegetables
and vineyards thrive? Or perhaps the many farmers’ markets
offering first-class, fresh local produce, which is then also used
to create mouth-watering dishes in the city’s restaurants? As with
any good recipe, it’s probably a little bit of everything. And all
