Evaluation :10% Active participation in class (e.g. answering and asking questions, sharingexperiences, participating in activities, exercises)10% Quizzes (2 or 3 quizzes in total / term)15% Written assignments15% Oral exam: Presentations (60% of the grade is required to pass thecourse, it means you should have 9 over 15 to pass the course). The oral exam isdone in the last week of the term or during the week of final exams.20% Mid-term30% Final examGrading Scale (for languages)A (95-100) A-(90-94) B+(87-89) B(83-86) B-(79-82) C+(75-78)C (71-74) C-(67-70) D+(63-66) D (60-62) F (59-…)Exams and Quiz dates are communicated in advance and are not subject torevision under any condition, students should plan accordingly.Medical reports are accepted only in case of missing an exam.60% required in all the components to pass the course.70% (Grade letter C) required for Audit students to pass the course .The grades are not given according to curve.Expectations :Attendance & participation in class: Attendance: Only 4 no-shows are allowed during the term. Missing more than20% of classes will result in an F. This is also applicable for the Auditstudents. Your participation in class will affect your grade which will be evaluatedbased on the discussions made during the lecture andyour involvement. Missing the role plays or homeworks done in class willresult in lower grade.


Make sure that you bring your textbooks and handouts (used in the previouslessons). Each student should bring his / her own books. In case you forget to bring thebooks, your grade of attendance and participation is subject to influence. Please make sure you come to the lectures on time and in case of more than 15min delay, you may attend the class while being considered as absent.Preparation & homeworks: You should be well prepared before coming to class which include a review ofthe previous lectures, homework, books and notebooks. In case of absence, you are expected to catch up the covered material youmissed and you are required to do any homework given in that lecture. In thiscase, contact other students or the instructor to get the handoutsdistributed at this specific class. Absenteeism isn’t an excuse not to do thehomework. Late homeworks will be accepted for feedback but the grade will be zero(0). I only accept typed, double spaced and font size 12 and fully punctuatedhomework, and with your name, and that should be given to me ontime(During the class) Wrong or incomplete homeworks are not counted, so in case of you don’tunderstand the subject you should ask your instructor. The handouts and photocopies should be organized in a folder.


Classroom Code of Conduct:Students at <strong>Koç</strong> <strong>University</strong> are required to adhere to classroom code of conductand to refrain from all forms ofunacceptable behavior during lectures. The activities which are prohibited inclass include and are not limited to:- Engaging in side conservations.- Using cell phones and other electronic devices. All cell phones should beswitched off before entering the lecture room.If you expect a very important call, please switch your phone to silent mode andlet your professor know in advance that you may receive a call.- Using laptops for purposes that are not course-related.- Arriving late or leaving early without the prior permission of the instructor. Ifyou have to leave during class for an emergency, please try to minimize thedisruption.- Reading material, e.g., magazines, newspapers, novels etc., that are not courserelated.- Working on personal activities or the assignments of other courses.- Interrupting the professor or other students. Students should requestpermission from the instructor before asking questions or making comments.- Trashing the classroom. Eating and drinking are allowed as long as impact onothers is minimized and students clean up their garbage after class.Failure to comply with the Classroom Code of Conduct may result in dismissalfrom class and disciplinary action.
