The lpNet log shows you when network programs such as lpNet are forked, <strong>and</strong><br />

when connections are made with remote systems. This log shows the events<br />

when we tried to cancel a job that was not pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g on a remote system (see<br />

Example 12-6).<br />

The /var/spool/lp/system/pstatus file conta<strong>in</strong>s a status stanza for each of the<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ters. This file often has a l<strong>in</strong>e with the last failure as shown here:<br />

12.3.5 Is the LANG variable set right?<br />

If you try to pr<strong>in</strong>t from a locale that has not been fully <strong>in</strong>stalled on your system,<br />

you may get errors, such as the one shown below:<br />

# lptest 10 10 | lp -d hp1<br />

UX:lp: ERROR: 0920-054 There is no filter to convert the file content.<br />

TO FIX: Use the lpstat -p -l comm<strong>and</strong> to f<strong>in</strong>d a<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ter that can h<strong>and</strong>le the file type<br />

directly, or consult with your system<br />

adm<strong>in</strong>istrator.<br />

However, if you simply add the -L C flag, the file pr<strong>in</strong>ts with no errors:<br />

# lptest 10 10 | lp -L C -d hp1<br />
