First, I was surprised becauseI had never heard that the Clubhad a choral group; more surprised,The choral singers of the Italian Club in 1916. The director was ProfessorFrank Di Leo sitting in the center. Sitting at the left is Peter Tagliarini.Others identified are the Cacciatore Brothers, Pasquale, standing at left; andOnofrio, center row third from the right. Next to him are the Piazza Brothinthe picture was my grandfather,Peter Tagliarini. To verify this, Icalled my only surviving uncle,Alec Tagliarini who is in his mid90’s and still with a remarkablememory. He related to me that heremembers well the several timeshe went with his father Peter towatch as they practiced operaticsongs on the second floor. Hedoesn’t remember ever seeing anactual production, just the practices.I am sure other memberswill be as excited as I was to seeThe mission of L’Unione Italiana is to preserve and honor the culture, traditions and heritage of the Italian Communityand to maintain the historical facility as a functioning memorial to the working class immigrants.
