<strong>Biola</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Academics<strong>Consent</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Policy</strong> <strong>and</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> <strong>Conduct</strong>Minimum <strong>of</strong> one parent signature required. One form per familyCampus/Ext. SitePID<strong>Consent</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Policy</strong>1. Participants are <strong>to</strong> be courteous <strong>and</strong> respectful <strong>to</strong>wards all participants <strong>and</strong> staff at all times. This includes refraining fromunkind remarks, pr<strong>of</strong>anity, coarse jokes, or other language that demonstrates disrespect or a lack <strong>of</strong> charity, or any otherconduct that is disruptive <strong>to</strong> the environment.2. Participants will be warned if their conduct or comments are inappropriate. If they persist in inappropriate conduct orconversation their participation may be terminated.3. Participants are encouraged <strong>to</strong> make wholesome friendships. However, participants will refrain from demonstratingromantic affection at all <strong>Biola</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Academics (BYA) programs <strong>and</strong> events.4. Students are <strong>to</strong> maintain neat <strong>and</strong> proper dress <strong>and</strong> hair that will not attract undue attention <strong>to</strong> themselves nor obstruct eyecontact. This dress code is not all-inclusive; we are mainly concerned with the underlying principles <strong>of</strong> modesty <strong>and</strong> respect.Any specific situation not addressed in this document will be resolved by the administration in accordance with the generalintent <strong>and</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> the dress code <strong>and</strong> the mission <strong>of</strong> BYA. The dress code applies <strong>to</strong> all participants <strong>and</strong> shall include,but not be limited <strong>to</strong>, the following guidelines:DRESS CODE Shoes are required. Hair should be neat <strong>and</strong> clean; moderate accents <strong>and</strong> color streaks are permissible. No clothing that is inappropriately revealing or that may be considered immodest, including clothing that exposesmidriffs, backs, or undergarments; shirts with spaghetti straps, clothing with revealing holes, or clothing that isexcessively baggy, tight, or low-cut. Shorts must reach or extend below mid-thigh; skirts must be long enough <strong>to</strong><strong>to</strong>uch the <strong>to</strong>p <strong>of</strong> the knee. Leggings may only be worn with a dress, skirt, or shorts that fall within the BYA dresscode. Swimwear, when allowed, must be a modest one piece for girls <strong>and</strong> board shorts for boy. No T-shirts with messages that are not in line with Christian principles. No piercings (except earrings on girls). No visible tat<strong>to</strong>os. No hats, hoodies or beanies that obstruct eye contact in the classroom. No sunglasses in the classroom.5. Participants are strictly prohibited from bringing any weapons (including pocket-knives), illegal drugs, alcohol, <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong>baccoproducts <strong>to</strong> events at any time.6. Participants are discouraged from bringing any electronic device such as an iPod, iPad, gaming device, etc. unless it is listedas optional for a specific event. <strong>Biola</strong> University assumes no responsibility for the loss or theft <strong>of</strong> personal property ordamages <strong>to</strong> personal property <strong>of</strong> participants.7. Summer Academy participants are allowed <strong>to</strong> bring a cell phone; however, it must be set <strong>to</strong> vibrate once student haschecked in <strong>and</strong> it may only be used <strong>to</strong> text, place or receive calls, etc. during breaks <strong>and</strong> at lunch. Cell phones brought by allother BYA program participants must be <strong>of</strong>f <strong>and</strong> put away while students are on location; cell phones may only be usedwith express permission <strong>of</strong> BYA staff or instruc<strong>to</strong>rs.8. Participants must treat property with respect. Participants will be liable for all damages <strong>to</strong> the facilities <strong>and</strong> equipment orother property <strong>of</strong> <strong>Biola</strong> University resulting from the misuse <strong>of</strong> such property by participants.9. No food or drink (other than a water bottle) is allowed in any event room. Gum is not allowed.10. Participants must be under the direct supervision <strong>of</strong> an adult at all times <strong>and</strong> must be released directly <strong>to</strong> a parent/guardian.11. Participants are not allowed <strong>to</strong> roam the campus or be in an area that is not appropriately supervised by BYA staff.12. Participants give consent <strong>to</strong> BYA <strong>to</strong> use any work they submit for the purpose <strong>of</strong> providing exemplary models for current<strong>and</strong> future participants <strong>to</strong> promote BYA programs.Revised 04-09-13


St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> <strong>Conduct</strong><strong>Biola</strong> University has long recognized the value in maintaining certain behavioral st<strong>and</strong>ards that contribute <strong>to</strong> the atmosphere <strong>of</strong>the community, foster fellowship, <strong>and</strong> strengthen our Christian testimony <strong>to</strong> our community. In this light, <strong>Biola</strong> <strong>Youth</strong>Academics requires that participants <strong>and</strong> parents involved in our program fully comply with its behavioral st<strong>and</strong>ards(summarized below) while participating in <strong>Biola</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Academics classes <strong>and</strong> activities.We do not condone practices that Scripture forbids, such as occult practices, sexual relations outside <strong>of</strong> marriage, homosexualbehavior, drunkenness, theft, <strong>and</strong> dishonesty. Members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Biola</strong> community have committed <strong>to</strong> abstain from thesepractices. <strong>Biola</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Academics participants are expected <strong>to</strong> exercise discernment <strong>and</strong> abstain from all activities that tend <strong>to</strong>be morally degrading. We at <strong>Biola</strong> uphold integrity as a core value <strong>of</strong> our community.
