Participants are to be courteous and respectful towards all participants and staff at all times. This includes refraining fromunkind remarks, profanity, coarse jokes, or other language that demonstrates disrespect or a lack of charity, or any otherconduct that is disruptive to the environment.2. Participants will be warned if their conduct or comments are inappropriate. If they persist in inappropriate conduct orconversation their participation may be terminated.3. Participants are encouraged to make wholesome friendships. However, participants will refrain from demonstratingromantic affection at all Biola Youth Academics (BYA) programs and events.4. Students are to maintain neat and proper dress and hair that will not attract undue attention to themselves nor obstruct eyecontact. This dress code is not all-inclusive; we are mainly concerned with the underlying principles of modesty and respect.Any specific situation not addressed in this document will be resolved by the administration in accordance with the generalintent and purpose of the dress code and the mission of BYA. The dress code applies to all participants and shall include,but not be limited to, the following guidelines:DRESS CODE Shoes are required. Hair should be neat and clean; moderate accents and color streaks are permissible. No clothing that is inappropriately revealing or that may be considered immodest, including clothing that exposesmidriffs, backs, or undergarments; shirts with spaghetti straps, clothing with revealing holes, or clothing that isexcessively baggy, tight, or low-cut. Shorts must reach or extend below mid-thigh; skirts must be long enough totouch the top of the knee. Leggings may only be worn with a dress, skirt, or shorts that fall within the BYA dresscode. Swimwear, when allowed, must be a modest one piece for girls and board shorts for boy. No T-shirts with messages that are not in line with Christian principles. No piercings (except earrings on girls). No visible tattoos. No hats, hoodies or beanies that obstruct eye contact in the classroom. No sunglasses in the classroom.5. Participants are strictly prohibited from bringing any weapons (including pocket-knives), illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobaccoproducts to events at any time.6. Participants are discouraged from bringing any electronic device such as an iPod, iPad, gaming device, etc. unless it is listedas optional for a specific event. Biola University assumes no responsibility for the loss or theft of personal property ordamages to personal property of participants.7. Summer Academy participants are allowed to bring a cell phone; however, it must be set to vibrate once student haschecked in and it may only be used to text, place or receive calls, etc. during breaks and at lunch. Cell phones brought by allother BYA program participants must be off and put away while students are on location; cell phones may only be usedwith express permission of BYA staff or instructors.8. Participants must treat property with respect. Participants will be liable for all damages to the facilities and equipment orother property of Biola University resulting from the misuse of such property by participants.9. No food or drink (other than a water bottle) is allowed in any event room. Gum is not allowed.10. Participants must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times and must be released directly to a parent/guardian.11. Participants are not allowed to roam the campus or be in an area that is not appropriately supervised by BYA staff.12. Participants give consent to BYA to use any work they submit for the purpose of providing exemplary models for currentand future participants to promote BYA programs.Revised 04-09-13

Standards of ConductBiola University has long recognized the value in maintaining certain behavioral standards that contribute to the atmosphere ofthe community, foster fellowship, and strengthen our Christian testimony to our community. In this light, Biola YouthAcademics requires that participants and parents involved in our program fully comply with its behavioral standards(summarized below) while participating in Biola Youth Academics classes and activities.We do not condone practices that Scripture forbids, such as occult practices, sexual relations outside of marriage, homosexualbehavior, drunkenness, theft, and dishonesty. Members of the Biola community have committed to abstain from thesepractices. Biola Youth Academics participants are expected to exercise discernment and abstain from all activities that tend tobe morally degrading. We at Biola uphold integrity as a core value of our community. Participants are expected to demonstratea commitment to the value of integrity in word and deed and to take responsibility for their own violations of behavioralguidelines.The above-mentioned policies and standards will be enforced and any infraction may result in consequences up to andincluding dismissal of participant. Biola Youth Academics staff members have the authority to enforce all policies.
