<strong>JOYFUL</strong> <strong>NOISE</strong><strong>Summer</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fun</strong>, <strong>Exploration</strong> <strong>and</strong> Enrichment<strong>and</strong> Vacation Ventures too!Our Joyful <strong>Summer</strong> Program is for children 2 ½ years old to those children graduating kindergarten thisJune. It will begin with one week <strong>of</strong> Vacation Ventures (our summer bible school). Then our daily<strong>Summer</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fun</strong>, <strong>Exploration</strong> <strong>and</strong> Enrichment will begin <strong>and</strong> continue for 8 weeks. As in summers past,all <strong>of</strong> our programs are open to all Joyful Noise families as well as the general community. It is awonderful opportunity to give young children the opportunity for spiritual growth as well as exposure t<strong>of</strong>ine arts enrichment, exploration <strong>of</strong> nature <strong>and</strong> exercise fun that research has proven makes a greatdifference in young brain development <strong>and</strong> later school success.Vacation Ventures is a one week program, June 25 – 29, that meets 9:00 – 1:00,$125 for the week. See inside this packet for more information.For the <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fun</strong>, <strong>Exploration</strong> <strong>and</strong> Enrichment, you may sign up for any combination <strong>of</strong>days <strong>of</strong> the week <strong>and</strong> weeks <strong>of</strong> the summer that fit your personal family summer plans. Each day duringJuly <strong>and</strong> August will be a single session allowing you the flexibility <strong>of</strong> coming to a class, skipping one ormore classes <strong>and</strong> returning several weeks later. Some weeks feature a special guest presentation <strong>and</strong>some weeks feature a special theme. This was a thoroughly enjoyable <strong>and</strong> educational presentation newlast year <strong>and</strong> we are excited that they are returning for our 2012 season. During VacationVentures on June 28 th , <strong>and</strong> on a Geo-Caching day (August 9 th ), our participants will betreated to an “amazing, comical <strong>and</strong> educational” animal experience. Some <strong>of</strong> last year’sfavorite animals will be included (the wallaby? The ferret? maybe the chinchilla?) <strong>and</strong> somenew ones.Big Jeff will be back! During one <strong>of</strong> our Performing Arts days (July 18 th ), children’s musicalentertainer Big Jeff will perform <strong>and</strong> keep everyone singing <strong>and</strong> moving with his blend <strong>of</strong>humor, learning <strong>and</strong> “super-interactive” audience participation. Big Jeff has a fun repertoire <strong>of</strong>new <strong>and</strong> classical children’s music, <strong>of</strong>fered with a little bit <strong>of</strong> rock <strong>and</strong> roll!Please note: due to the expense <strong>of</strong> these special presentations, August 9 th <strong>and</strong> July 18 th cost anadditional $10. There is no additional cost for the presentation during Vacation Ventures.Special Theme WeeksEvery day will include fun <strong>and</strong> creativity but new this summer, three weeks will feature aspecial theme that will be carried through each day, in literature, exercise, performance,geo-caching <strong>and</strong> art!July 9 – 13, All week it’s Hooray for the Red, White <strong>and</strong> Blue!As we are closed July4th <strong>and</strong> since we wanted a full week to celebrate, read, sing, create <strong>and</strong>discover patriotism <strong>and</strong> independence, we decided to wait until this week!July 30 – August 3, All week it’s <strong>Fun</strong> <strong>and</strong> Games on the Boardwalk!With an emphasis on beach themes <strong>and</strong> boardwalk fun, we will bring the shore to Joyful Noisethrough stories, songs <strong>and</strong> lots <strong>of</strong> games too.August 20 – 24, All week it’s Circus Time Under the Big Top!The music, the animals, some juggling, our art…all will be influenced by the color, excitement<strong>and</strong> fun <strong>of</strong> the circus (no clowns with painted faces!)


MondaysLiterature - Classic to ContemporaryLed by Mrs. Beyrent, Miss Nigro, Mrs. Simone <strong>and</strong> Miss MooreResearch has proven that exposure to early reading activities is the single most important factor in raising areader <strong>and</strong> predicting future academic success. Those children who are read to on a regular basis <strong>and</strong> whointeract with books <strong>and</strong> activities that exp<strong>and</strong> vocabulary, creative thinking <strong>and</strong> the written word, show moreinterest in books <strong>and</strong> learning to read. Our literature program will encourage a love <strong>of</strong> reading whilebuilding readiness skills.Each week the children will be exposed to a different literature genre such as classical <strong>and</strong>contemporary children’s stories, poetry, <strong>and</strong> non-fiction which will develop the children’sunderst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> appreciation <strong>of</strong> books <strong>and</strong> the written word. Our time together will includefinger plays <strong>and</strong> rhymes, flannel board <strong>and</strong> cooking activities, arts <strong>and</strong> crafts, dramatization <strong>of</strong>stories through skits <strong>and</strong> puppetry, <strong>and</strong> writing original stories. These <strong>and</strong> other activities willhelp develop vocabulary, sequencing skills, knowledge <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> story structure,creativity, critical thinking <strong>and</strong> phonological awareness (e.g., rhyming, alliteration, word familygroupings).Children will be grouped by age, <strong>and</strong> specific age appropriate books <strong>and</strong> activities will be plannedfor each group.TuesdaysPhysical Fitness, Exercise <strong>Fun</strong> & Water Play“From birth through age 5, kids’ bodies are growing every day, in every way. Being physically active improveschildren’s overall health. When they exercise, kids just feel good.” (healthykidshealthyfuture.org)Led by Mrs. Scala <strong>and</strong> Mrs. BeyrentChildren are never too young to exp<strong>and</strong> their physical activities, begin the exercise habit or tobe educated about good diet choices! Here is a really fun way to encourage your children toappreciate the health benefits <strong>of</strong> good daily nutrition <strong>and</strong> exercise activities. Each session willbe action packed, inside <strong>and</strong> outside. Our day will include aerobics <strong>and</strong> movement, water <strong>and</strong>sprinkler play, children’s yoga <strong>and</strong> meditation. Snacks will be fresh <strong>and</strong> healthy, <strong>and</strong> we willlearn about nutrition <strong>and</strong> food choices.Wear a bathing suit <strong>and</strong> water shoes, <strong>and</strong> pack a towel <strong>and</strong> a change <strong>of</strong> clothing!


WednesdaysPerforming Arts: Music / Dance / TheaterLed by Mr. Skip, Mrs. Johnson, Miss Moore, Mr. Mark, Mrs. MartinStudies have provided statistical pro<strong>of</strong> that education in the area <strong>of</strong> music increases children’s intelligence,academic success, social skills <strong>and</strong> even physical fitness. This summer enrichment opportunity will letchildren age appropriately investigate <strong>and</strong> explore the worlds <strong>of</strong> music <strong>and</strong> performing arts while also havingtime for outside <strong>and</strong> classroom play, <strong>and</strong> socialization.Through the performing arts at Joyful Noise, the children will experience different types <strong>of</strong>musical composition such as classical, jazz, folk, hip-hop, opera, reggae, pop <strong>and</strong> rock. Eachweek the children will learn about different musical instruments by being introduced to actualinstruments through demonstrations, recordings, <strong>and</strong> various other media. Additionally, ourtime together will include sing-a-long songs <strong>and</strong> movement through dance (hip-hop, ballet,creative movement, etc.). During drama <strong>and</strong> theater time, the children will be givenopportunities to use props, puppets, music <strong>and</strong> their imaginations to create different skits ordramatic scenarios.Children entering <strong>and</strong> graduating kindergarten will also experience the musical concepts <strong>of</strong>rhythm, pitch, harmony <strong>and</strong> musical notation, presented <strong>and</strong> reinforced through the use <strong>of</strong> h<strong>and</strong>bells for young children. The h<strong>and</strong> bells are color coded to child appropriate music so that thechildren will be able to participate <strong>and</strong> actually ring music together.* Big Jeff will be entertaining our little performers on July 18 th !ThursdaysGeo-CachingLed by Mrs. Svoboda <strong>and</strong> Mrs. SimoneChildren will be exposed to learning experiences which incorporate nearby walking field trips,social studies, map reading skills, arts <strong>and</strong> crafts, math <strong>and</strong> science activities in fun <strong>and</strong>interactive ways. Each week the children will be given a map to a different location in theJoyful Noise neighborhood. The children will engage in map reading activities <strong>and</strong> then followtheir maps to a destination. At each destination, there will be a “treasure box” with a follow uplesson to be completed back in the classroom. This is a fun, interactive, outdoor experiencethat will help build each child’s academic readiness while being outside <strong>and</strong> active.* Eyes <strong>of</strong> the Wild will join our adventurers on August 9 th !


FridaysArt for Little ArtistsLed by Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Scala, Miss Nigro, Mrs. SvobodaStudies have provided statistical pro<strong>of</strong> that education in the areas <strong>of</strong> visual <strong>and</strong> fine art increases children’sintelligence, academic success <strong>and</strong> social skills. Our Art for Little Artists will lead children to ageappropriately investigate <strong>and</strong> explore the world <strong>of</strong> visual, fine arts while developing <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ing theirartistic creativity.2 1/2, 3 year olds, <strong>and</strong> children entering pre-K in SeptemberEach class will be an exploration <strong>of</strong> a different art material <strong>and</strong> process including 3-D art forms<strong>and</strong> materials such as clay, dough <strong>and</strong> cement <strong>and</strong> art processes such as collage,watercolor/resist <strong>and</strong> print-making. For each art medium/technique, the children will be giventhe opportunity to use the materials to create their own “masterpieces”. Along with anunderst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong> the art techniques <strong>and</strong> proper use <strong>of</strong> art supplies, creative <strong>and</strong> individualexpression will be encouraged.Children Entering <strong>and</strong> Graduating KindergartenEach class will focus on a different artist <strong>and</strong> the type <strong>of</strong> medium for which this artist is knownthrough art history books, reproductions <strong>and</strong> a focus on the artist’s style. For each artist orart technique/medium, the children will be given the opportunity to use materials <strong>and</strong> createtheir own “masterpieces”. Tempura paint, watercolors, acrylic paints, pastels <strong>and</strong> charcoals aresome <strong>of</strong> the art mediums that will be used as the children learn <strong>and</strong> investigate the life <strong>and</strong>works <strong>of</strong> artists such as Botticelli, Klee, Rembr<strong>and</strong>t, Degas <strong>and</strong> Picasso.
