333.1 Roundwood3.1.1 Roundwood ProductionSustainable forest production of pine and eucalyptus in Brazil was 191.4 million m³/year in 2007, increased 4.0%compared to 2006. It should be noted that "sustainable production" of species is the potential growth calculated by the plantedarea and its MAI rate. Eucalypt represents 74% of the total production and pine 26%, as presented in Table 3.01.Table 3.01 Estimate of Sustainable Production of Pine and Eucalypt Roundwood in Brazil (2007)20062007SpeciesPlanted Area(1,000 ha)1MAI(m³/ha.year)Sustainable Production(1,000 m³/year)%Planted Area(1,000 ha)1MAI(m³/ha.year)Sustainable Production(1,000 m³/year)%Pine1, 8242749,225271, 8082748,82526Eucalypt3,54938134,868733,75238142,57174TOTAL5,373-184,1231005,560-191,3961001MAI – Mean Annual IncrementSource: FAO; STCP, 2007.Figure 3.02 shows that 95.3% of pine roundwood production concentrates in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil. This concentration is due to the advanced development level of timber industry in these regions, which produce principallysawnwood, plywood and reconstituted panels.Figure 3.02 Estimate of Sustainable Production of Forest Plantation by Region in BrazilPineEucalypt40,00038,66490,00075,00081,2521,000 m30,00020,0001,000 m60,00045,00010,00007,870932 1,113 246West-Central Northeast North Southeast South30,00015,000025,78115,93412,0127,591West-Central Northeast North Southeast South49Source: STCP Database.ABRAFSTATISTICALYEARBOOK 2008Base Year 2007
