The product is a 1-km griddedcomposite of fire pixels detected in each grid cell over each 8-day compositing period.Figure 4 shows the 8-day summary fire mask from the 26 June - 3 July 2002 8-day Level 3Terra fire product. The tile is located in the eastern United States (h08v05). The 8-day compositeis the maximum value of the individual Level 2 pixel classes that fell into each 1-km grid cell overthe entire 8-day compositing period. Due to the way the three different fire-pixel confidence levelsare defined (Section 4.1), the Level 3 8-day fire product is sometimes said to contain the “mostconfidentdetected fires”. 2.6 Climate Modeling Grid Fire Products (MOD14CMH, MYD14CMH, etc.)The CMG fire products are gridded statistical summaries of fire pixel information intended for usein regional and global modeling. The products are currently generated at 0.5 ◦ spatial resolution fortime periods of one calendar month (MOD14CMH and MYD14CMH) and eight days (MOD14C8Hand MYD14C8H). Higher resolution 0.25 ◦ CMG fire products will eventually be produced as well.An example of the corrected fire pixel count layer of the product is shown in Figure 5.Figure 5: Example of the corrected fire pixel count data layer from the January 2001 CMG fireproduct.2.7 Global Monthly Fire Location Product (MCD14ML)For some applications it is necessary to have the geographic coordinates of individual fire pixels.New for Collection 5 is the global monthly fire location product (MCD14ML), which contains thisinformation for all Terra and Aqua MODIS fire pixels in a single monthly ASCII file.11
