Do you think of your art as existing within a moral context?
I exist within a moral context because everybody does, not only as an artist, but
simply as a human being.
Therefore my artistic practice is automatically part of a moral context, too. The
question is not if my work exists within a moral context or not, but rather how
to deal with it.
An artist should be watching the world around him/her with eyes wide open,
with a seismographic sensitivity also to incertitudes, problems, injustices and
dependencies.
But speaking of the function of the artist in a moral context, I would always
prefer to be a mirror than a missionary.
And speaking of the work, I would always like my work to be an irritating and
flickering reflection of light rather than a holy book.
