As described in the Emergency <strong>Medical</strong> System (EMS) Appendix to this annex, JohnsonCounty Med‐Act is responsible for the provision and coordination of emergency medicalresponse activities. The Emergency <strong>Medical</strong> System Appendix establishes howemergency medical response activites will be coordinated to meet the needs generatedby disasters in Johnson County.5. As described in the Mental <strong>Health</strong> Appendix to this annex, Johnson County Mental <strong>Health</strong>Center is responsible for the provision and coordination of emergency mental healthresponse activities. The Mental <strong>Health</strong> Appendix establishes how mental healthresponse activites will be coordinated to meet the needs generated by a disaster inJohnson County.6. As described in the Mass Fatality Appendix to this annex, the Johnson County Coroner isresponsible for the provision and coordination of mass fatality response activities inemergencies/disasters. The Mass Fatality Appendix establishes how mass fatalityresponse activities will be coordinated to meet the needs generated by a disaster inJohnson County.7. Hospitals in Johnson County will provide medical services in accordance with theirpolicies, procedures, and agreements and coordinate with partner organizations (JC<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong>, JC Med‐Act, cities, first responders, etc.) as needed. When hospitalsrequire assistance from Johnson County, they will notify Johnson County <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong>,Johnson County Med‐Act, or the <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong> Team in the CountyEOC when activated.8. Adult care facilities (e.g. nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day care,boarding care, etc.) will respond to emergencies/disasters according to their statemandated emergency management plans (Nursing Facilities KSA 28­39­163, AssistedLiving Facilities KSA 26­41­104, Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded &Nursing Facilities for Mental <strong>Health</strong> KSA 39­932, Home Plus KSA 26­42­104, Adult DayCare Facilities KSA 26­43­104, Boarding Care Homes KSA 28­39­409). When adult carefacilities require assistance from Johnson County, they will notify Johnson County<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong>, Johnson County Med‐Act, or the <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong> Team inthe County EOC when activated.9. Due to the broad scope of <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong>, the role of CoordinatingAgency for the <strong>ESF</strong> is shared between the JC <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Department, JC Med‐Act, JCMental <strong>Health</strong>, and the JC Coroner. When the <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong> Team isactivated, JC <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong>, JC Med‐Act, and JC Mental <strong>Health</strong> respond to the EOC. Theseagencies will collectively assess the situation and determine which department (JC<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong>, JC Med‐Act, or JC Mental <strong>Health</strong>) will serve as the Coordinating Agencyfor the <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong> Team during the activation. The otherdepartments will continue to serve as <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Health</strong> and <strong>Medical</strong> Team Membersin support of the Coordinating Agency and the <strong>ESF</strong>‐8 mission.
