Not onlydid he light the ceremonial lamp tomark the beginning <strong>of</strong> the performance,he also presented mementoesto “Ramli” and his troupe.The NGO Vidya, which had arrangedthe “Ramli” workshop at the Dr.Ambedkar School in Worli,organised the NCPA event, too.And just as she did at Worli, Ms.Rashmi Mishra, the chairperson <strong>of</strong>Vidya, ably conducted the proceedingsat the second programme, too.Other members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Club</strong> who attendedthe programme at theNCPA were PP RajnikantReshamwala, Ramesh Narayan,Alok Sekhsaria, Manojj KumarPatodia and Manish Reshamwala.<strong>Rotary</strong>anns Nandita Patodia andVandana Daga were also present.‘Citizen <strong>of</strong> Mumbai’ Award forGerson da CunhaImmediate Past PresidentPradeep Saxena will present theprestigious “Citizen <strong>of</strong> Mumbai”Award to the illustrious Mr.Gerson da Cunha at the meeting<strong>of</strong> July 26. (The presentationwas due to be made in the previous<strong>Rotary</strong> year but was delayedfor lack <strong>of</strong> dates suitable to Mr.da Cunha.)A multi-talented and multi-facetedpersonality, Mr. da Cunha is thefounder <strong>of</strong> AGNI, the wellknownNGO, and has workedtirelessly to improve civic servicesand to re-introduce honestyand accountability in public life.He is known to have stated with agreat deal <strong>of</strong> pride that he is“Mumbai-born and bred... and Irefuse to accept the degradationand corruption here. I am provokedinto a response to it”.This attitude has seen him play anactive role in several NGOs, includingCRY, Akanksha and<strong>Bombay</strong> First. Mr. da Cunha hasalso been an advocate for “FifthEstate”, a collective voice <strong>of</strong> citizens.As an advertising person, he workedwith Lintas for 25 years (andheaded it for ten). In fact, he iscredited with having laid thefoundation for what was to growinto one <strong>of</strong> India’s leading advertisingagencies.He has been honoured by the AdvertisingAgencies Association <strong>of</strong>India with its most prestigiousaward for his contribution to theindustry.Author, journalist, theatre personalityand poet, Mr. da Cunha hasbeen all <strong>of</strong> these, and with distinction.He has used his communicationskills to further manygood causes.‘F.T.’ passes awayFakhruddin T. Khorakiwala, aformer senior member <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bombay</strong>, passedaway on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.He was 93 years old and was activetill very recently.
