FastTrac watches made by Titanwere presented to eleven childrenof the Bhavishya-Yaan project beingimplemented at the Colaba MunicipalSchool at a function held on June25.All 23 Bhavishya-Yaan studentsfrom this school who appeared forand passed the SSC examination withflying colours were felicitated on theoccasion.As already reported, the outstandingresults achieved by students ofthe Bhavishya-Yaan project at Colabawas a huge vote of confidence in boththe Education for All Committee aswell as the NGO Vidya which hadbeen involved in the academic andother activities of the students.The members of the outgoingCommittee, which had Alok Sekhsariaas Chairman, arranged the felicitationfunction on the school premisesand invited all the successfulstudents along with one parent each.They were treated to snacks and softdrinks.Pradeep Saxena, the outgoing President,presented FastTrac watches toThe SSC brigade of the Colaba ‘Bhavishya-Yaan’Well done! College. Some sectionsof the media covered theprogramme in some detail.‘Ramli’ had the children transfixed as he explained various nuances of classical Indian dance forms to them. In the Manojj Kumar Patodia and Manishphotograph at right, he takes the stage himself and, having invited the students to join him, leads them by suggestingsome simple steps to get them going. (The presentationwas due to be made in the previousRotary year but was delayedfor lack of dates suitable to Mr.da Cunha.)A multi-talented and multi-facetedpersonality, Mr. da Cunha is thefounder of AGNI, the wellknownNGO, and has workedtirelessly to improve civic servicesand to re-introduce honestyand accountability in public life.He is known to have stated with agreat deal of pride that he is“Mumbai-born and bred... and Irefuse to accept the degradationand corruption here. I am provokedinto a response to it”.This attitude has seen him play anactive role in several NGOs, includingCRY, Akanksha andBombay First. Mr. da Cunha hasalso been an advocate for “FifthEstate”, a collective voice of citizens.As an advertising person, he workedwith Lintas for 25 years (andheaded it for ten). In fact, he iscredited with having laid thefoundation for what was to growinto one of India’s leading advertisingagencies.He has been honoured by the AdvertisingAgencies Association ofIndia with its most prestigiousaward for his contribution to theindustry.Author, journalist, theatre personalityand poet, Mr. da Cunha hasbeen all of these, and with distinction.He has used his communicationskills to further manygood causes.‘F.T.’ passes awayFakhruddin T. Khorakiwala, aformer senior member of theRotary Club of Bombay, passedaway on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.He was 93 years old and was activetill very recently.
