Millie Rotman Shimetaught English and History in Toronto high schools and had a passion for teaching andlearning. In her short life she exemplified the best that any great University may expectof its alumni. Her father, the late Manny Rotman, who received his Bachelor's Degree fromWoodsworth College in 1985 at age 76, wished to commemorate her memory by assistingothers who share his love of learning. The mature student program at Woodsworth Collegehad its inaugural year in 1967 and was known then as the Pre-University Program. In 2000,with the generous support of the Rotman family, the Program was updated and receivedits new and notable name, the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program.Academic Bridging Program OverviewThe Academic Bridging Program enables many mature students who are at least 20 yearsold to pursue degree studies at the University of Toronto. Each Academic Bridging courseis designed for individuals who have been away from formal education for some time anddo not meet the University's established requirement for direct entry admissions; each isintended to bridge the gap between a student's prior secondary education and therequirements of first year university courses. Inaddition, there are a number of resources and services available to students: the AcademicWriting Centre assists students with written assignments in individual appointments;Learning for Success is a one-day refresher course on effective reading and essay writing;and additional intensive Study Skill Seminars throughout the duration of the course offerstudents additional academic support. All these services are included in the course fee.The University of Toronto and Woodsworth College are committed to making universitystudies financially accessible to students and graduates of the Academic Bridging Program. There is generous financial assistance available to help eligible students meet the costs ofthe course and Woodsworth College awards scholarships to top graduates of the AcademicBridging Program who continue on in degree studies.October 15, 2008October 27, 20084:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.How Does the Program Work?Students who qualify for admission to the Academic Bridging Program will register in oneof the three Academic Bridging courses.
