EJTN training guideline in European Criminal Justice - Update 2011Introductory ChapterIn this document, the main fields relevant for judicial training in the area ofEuropean criminal justice will be assessed.To do so, all potential topics have been accumulated and listed under thefollowing six chapters (each of them hereinafter referred to as ‘Chapter’):A) General principles of EU law from the European criminal justice angleB) Judicial cooperation in criminal mattersC) European criminal procedureD) European criminal lawE) Police cooperationF) Human rightsEach Chapter consists of several sub-chapters (each of them hereinafter referredto as ‘Sub-Chapter’) which should, taken as a whole, present the complete areaof relevance for judicial training in European criminal justice.Within each Sub-Chapter, different topics will be identified (each of themhereinafter referred to as ‘Topic’) and assessed according to the following fivemain categories (each of them hereinafter referred to as ‘Main Category’):1. IntroductionFor each topic, the main features of the applicable European legal instrumentwill be briefly presented as well as its relevance for the judiciary and therecommended content of the training programme will be outlined.2. Instruments and case lawUnder this point there will be a list of the relevant legal instruments as well aslandmark decisions of the ECJ/CFI and national courts. The key points of thedecisions will be explained very briefly.3. TrainersFor each Topic or Sub-Chapter, the guidelines will draw up a recommendedprofile for trainers. Trainers can be categorised into six main groups as outlinedbelow. Recommendations of certain categories of trainers do not exclude othercategories but serve as a reference to those that are especially important.A) International expertsExamples of international trainers are representatives of the EuropeanCourt of Human Rights, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, etc. (this list isnot exhaustive).4
