Editorial :: Hotel Royal, EurothermenResort Bad Ischl, Austria ::
Dear Readers,
Life is change, because it is imperative to
set course for the future – in private as well
as in business life. For example, the investment
in a production plant (page 8) or the
introduction of a new market concept (page
10), or a change of profession, as was the
case for me at the beginning of 2007. Since
then I have been working in a company in
which all the employees pursue one common
goal with complete dedication: to deliver the
absolute best carpet that is produced on
the world‘s most state-of-the-art Chromo-
JET ink-jet carpet printing machine and of
which all those involved are proud.
An example of this is our work for the
Hotel Royal in Bad Ischl, which I will present
to you in the following pages. We have developed
fourteen different designs for the
hotel, patterns which refl ect the identifi cation
with the Salzkammergut and its meaning
during the Imperial Era. Thus the patterns in
the public areas and rooms are based on
abstractions of salt crystals, while in the
suites more opulent, romantic elements
make reference to the Austrian royal couple
Franz-Joseph and Elisabeth. The fact that
the various styles join together to form a
harmonious overall picture is largely thanks
to the architects with whom we cooperated
in creating a modern, down-to-earth world
with a fairy tale-like charm. You might say
dreams into reality.
I would be delighted to be able to convince
you of our potential and accomplishments:
either in direct contact or, of course, by
means of a perfectly carpeted fl oor for you.
On the Tracks
of a Legend
It is a classic – the Sissi trilogy from the 1950s. Millions of ardent
fans gather in front of the television for its annual reprise during
the Christmas holidays in order to follow the epic with delight.
But the real life of Empress Elisabeth still inspires great fascination
for many.

A special characteristic of the Hotel Royal
in Bad Ischl – the place where Elisabeth and
Franz Joseph met each other – is the connection
of decades‘ long tradition with the
luxurious comfort of modernity.
Halbmond designed 14 different patterns for the
4-star hotel these designs developed with a lack
direction in the design, due to the convoluted layout
of the building.
In the themed-suites the fi tted carpets are combined with
oak parquet. The designs are based on the classic series
from Step by Step 1 and embellished with details such as
the imperial initials.
Hotel Royal, EurothermenResort Bad Ischl, Austria ::
The strict geometric forms of the design
symbolize abstract salt crystals.
“ In order to make a hotel into a home one needs a high degree of personality. Especially
in the interior design.” Markus Achleitner, Managing Director of the EurothermenResort Bad Ischl
Soft and fl owing elements round out the picture
of the Salzkammergut thermal springs.
4 | The Carpet Magazine 15
A myth arose with the Sissi fi lms, for many consider the
trilogy a purely biographical treatment. That the depiction
on the silver screen is in no way identical with reality is
already obvious in the way the name is written: Sisi – that
is, with one letter less – is the historically established
version. The fi lm adaptations were also not fi lmed with
authenticity in mind, but were rather intended to meet
the expectations of the imperial time. In her role Romy
Schneider simply lives the dreams of happiness, glamour,
and glory which satisfi ed the audience of the post-war
period.
Even in the original settings of the imperial life, the border
between legend and truth is blurry. For example Bad
Ischl, the place in the Salzkammergut, where the then
15-year old and her Franz Joseph met for the fi rst time –
visitors here will not only be offered numerous attractions
such as the marble castle built especially for Elisabeth,

tradition. True to the original style and in the historic reception
Even the modern buildings such as the Thermal Hotel
Royal, which capably connects history and modernity
with one another, make reference to the imperial period:
historic furniture and the corresponding theme suites
give several areas of the 4-star hotel an atmosphere that
comes close to the fl air of the fi lm. After all, tourists and
wellness guests should be able to take a break from the
everyday run of life and allow themselves to fully relax.
And where better to do that than in an atmosphere in
which one is transported into a world of dreams ...
Further proof for the fascination with Elisabeth: the musical of
the same name, whose focus is the representation of the Austrian
empress as a multifaceted personality.
The illuminated walls and columns
are made of 5 cm thick tiles of rock
salt blocks, cut and fastened on
plexiglass walls.
Leisure Facilities ::
“ A Cinema is Like a
Hotel Room ...”
“... it sometimes happens that one feels unobserved but one can observe oneself in the
mirror.” In addition to this refl ection which overtakes some of us in quiet moments, there
are numerous further similarities between hotels and cinemas. At least concerning design
needs for the carpeted fl oors.
Halbmond developed the concept
“Halbmond is a partner who exceptionally satisfi es our demand for
high quality and our desire for individual creativity in all its variations.”
Rasti Tratnik, Interior Design Office Arteco
More than just a pretty face: At the
Cap'Cinéma Le Carnot various playful
colours show the way to the cinema halls
whose numbers are also integrated into
the design.
For the development of qualities or selection for high-traffi c areas,
Halbmond is the ideal partner: we conduct comprehensive consultations
with our clients and recommend the optimal quality carpet of
various materials in different performance classes. Regarding carpet
installation Oelsnitzer specialists offer an alternative: fl oorings
that are equipped with a special heavy backing called EAST LIFT ®
which lies absolutely fl at, is dimensionally stable without the usual
adhesives – an advantage that pays especially when a replacement
may be required
The diversity of design possibilities can be seen in the two chosen
examples: the Cap'Cinéma Le Carnot in French Agen chose a lightly
curved, white typography that sets an exciting accent against the
monochrome geometrical surfaces of the background.
The parties responsible at Planet Tuš Kranj in Slovenia – a cinema
complex with bowling and billiard areas – wanted, on the other
hand, to transform the location into a hot spot. This was achieved
by the Halbmond team with a special effect: in the carpet fl uorescent
colors have been integrated that radiate into the night as they do
into the eyes of the visitor.
Thanks to the 1,000,000 printer jets
per square meter, the fi lm-related
quotations are presented in pin sharp
clarity against the background.
In this corridor in the Slovenian Planet Tuš Kranj the writing is the sole
design element.
The World‘s Most State-of-the-Art Ink Jet Machine ::
ChromoJET Exceeds All Expectations!
In August 2008 HTW Design Carpet and its mother company Halbmond distinguished themselves
clearly from their competitors: in Oelsnitz they put into operation the world‘s most state-of-the-art
digital ink jet machine.
You have all the time, not in
the least because HTW Design
Carpet and Halbmond, with the
new ChromoJET, allows for every
design and colour wish!
8 | The Carpet Magazine 15
Now after one year of production it is time to
sum up the results of the ChromoJET, specially
built for Halbmond – the results are
more than positive!
Especially in the realization of technically demanding
designs with soft colour gradients
or photorealistic representations, results can
be achieved that are impossible with conventional
ink-jet equipment. But all other designs
also gain in clarity and depth, as many clients
have already become convinced themselves.
They benefi t not only from the exceptional
printed images, but also where fl exibility,
turn-around time, and cost-effectiveness are
concerned – in short these relate to exceptional
value for the customer.
With 12,288 ink jets
the million-euro investment
allows for even sharper, more
colourful and brilliant carpet
designs.

The Perfect Design for Every Area ::
Supporting Role
or Leading Actor?
When talking about design and furnishing,
the hallways of hotels still have a subordinate
role to play. But they are also a gift of enormous
potential – for in the end the guests
transverse these hallways several times a
day, going from point A to point B, from the
restaurant, seminar room, or their excursion
back to their room.
The fact that hallways are naturally long and
narrow is not something the designers from
Halbmond can change. But they can use ingenious
design to make them seem optically
wider and therefore friendlier and more lavish.
This will considerably improve the impression
your hotel makes.
HGK General Meeting, Munich ::
G‘day, Howdy, and
A Good Morning to You
As a partner of the Hotel-und Gastronomie-
Kauf eG (Hotel and Gastronomy Purchasing
Cooperative), with its 2,100 members nationwide,
Halbmond took the opportunity at this
year‘s general meeting to lay a very special
carpet at their feet.
Especially pleasing was the feedback for
the 80-meter long runner, designed with the
names of all the HGK members. It was only
exceeded by the scenes that took place
along the carpet: almost every member
searched for the name of their hotel and took
a photograph. Some even had themselves
photographed – standing, kneeling, or even
lying next to his lettering!
Fitted fl ooring in the entrance area greets
all guests in their own dialect.
Radisson SAS Erfurt
It matters little how much care your
a piece of chewing gum is ground into
the foyer fl oor, a coffee stain will leave
its mark, a tar spot fi nds its way into the
lobby.
For these incidents the team from
Halbmond remains by your side even
after the carpet installation: not only
with comprehensive and practical care
tips, but with specially developed cleaning
instructions including a stain chart,
in which you can fi nd the appropriate directions
quickly and easily. For diffi cult
stains as well as regular intensive cleaning
our carpet specialists will happily refer
you to a professional cleaning company
and if it is the “perfect” stain, then
we will replace the damaged area – with
a perfect fi t and almost totally invisibly.
angelo designhotel, Munich ::
One Brand Dominates
the Business World
In 2006 the brand angelo designhotel was introduced in Prague with the opening of a 4-star
house. With it the hotel group Vienna International hopes to gain foray into the highly competitive
European market in the conference and business hotel sector. The next steps on the path
of expansion were made in Munich, Bucharest, and Pilsen, and in the meantime the realization
of sites in Poland and Russia is almost complete.
All poured from one mold:
The colour palette of
orange, yellow, and red,
which dominates the
angelo designhotel,
counter balanced by
the peaceful black which
compliments it, runs
through all areas of the
house.
10 | The Carpet Magazine 15

The heart of the hotel:
the lobby bar “JAZZ”
with lounge furniture,
indirect lighting and
fi re place.
“ In angelo designhotel an exclusive interior and eastern
accessories are combined into a design concept that
forms the framework for our exceptionally high quality
service.” Marcel Koburger, General Manager
What is special about the design concept of
the angelo brand? In contrast to what one
might assume from its name, interior design
is not paramount, but the comfort of the
guest is. After all the centrally located houses
are oriented to business travellers who value
technical refi nements in an exclusive lifestyle
ambience, but who also don‘t want to sacrifi
ce their own well-being.
Therefore the angelo designhotel in Munich,
like its sister hotels, places its emphasis on
quality. The hotel‘s stringently refi ned concept
and appearance lend the modern world the
right amount of comfort. Sundry examples
can be found, such as the curtains: in order
to fi ll the rooms with soft light, a transparent
yellow material was chose instead of white.
Admittedly, few guests will consciously note
this. But it is such refi nements which transform
a hotel into a living work or art.
Whereas lively is in no way to be equated
with loud: a decoupled ventilation system as
well as sound insulated doors and windows
reduce the din from outside. Inside carpeting
ensures a soft quiet environment with its
comfort backing made out of felt, it reduces
the noise of footsteps and improves the walking
sensation with a moss-like cushioning. At
the same time, the colour and form concept
of the angelo designhotel is extended to the
fl ooring. This, all the way to your room without
compromise, and with millimetre precision.
For the Oelsnitzer enterprise makes
the same claims as in angelo designhotel: a
symbol of design and comfort.
