EXECUTIVE MANAGER’SREPORTThe Teaching and Research effort of the School hasbeen well supported again this year by a strong teamof professional staff. With students moving into thesecond year of the Melbourne Model BSc , laboratorystaff continued to manage large numbers of studentsdoing new labs including the staging of further nightlabs.Building WorksThe major project completed early this year was therefurbishment of the Part II/III laboratories with theDean of Science Prof Rob Saint officially opening thespace in June. Students and staff had been usingthe new labs since March and provided very positivefeedback on the layout, facilities and equipment.Various rooms throughout the building wererefurbished for staff, students and retirees with officespace becoming increasingly tight as the Schoolgrows and becomes more successful.The consolidation of experimental research space waslargely completed maximizing available space for keyresearch projects.Professional Staff ChangesSome major changes took place at the end of 2009when Russell Walsh (Finance Manager) and NickNicola (Laboratory Manager) both retired after over25 years service each. Our sincere thanks and goodwishes go to these two outstanding professional staffleaders.With their departure a restructure of the administrationteam on Level 1 saw Cheryl Burrell stepping up intothe Finance Manager’s role and Cilla Gloger into a newrole – Research and Administration Manager. ColinEntwisle was also promoted into the new Teachingand Laboratory Coordination position.Joanne Kuluveovski, Research and CommunicationsManager gained a promotion to the Faculty ofEngineering and Jo Gajewski from QCV left onmaternity leave.
