IRCICA PublicationsCatalogue of Winners’ Plates in the SeventhInternational Calligraphy Competition in the nameof Hashim Mohammad Al-Baghdadi (1335-1393h/1917-1973 AD), IRCICA, Istanbul, 2007This catalogue contains the reproductions of the 94 awardwinningcalligraphic works of the Seventh InternationalCalligraphy Competition which was organised by IRCICA<strong>and</strong> finalized in April 2007. Following IRCICA’s tradition ofdedicating each triennial competition to a master ofclassical calligraphy, the seventh competitionwas named after the Iraqi calligrapherHashim Mohammad Al-Baghdadi(1335-1393 h/1917-1973 AD). 916calligraphers from 38 countriesp<strong>art</strong>icipated in this competition,with 1616 entries in fourteen different styles of writing,namely jaly thuluth, thuluth, naskh, jaly taliq, nastaliq,jaly diwani, diwani, kufi, muhaqqaq, reyhani, ijaza, riqa,maghribi <strong>and</strong> hurda taliq. 21 awards <strong>and</strong> 74 mentionswere distributed <strong>for</strong> the 94 calligraphies presented in thecatalogue. In addition, 42 p<strong>art</strong>icipants were given incentiveprizes by decision of the Jury. Thus in total, 119 calligraphersfrom 25 countries received prizes.In addition to the reproductions of the calligraphies,the catalogue also includes the names <strong>and</strong>addresses of the winners <strong>and</strong> a list of thosewho received incentive prizes whichare published in order to encouragecommunications among thecalligraphers.IRCICA PubilicationsFrom top: Mention in Kufi, by Salah M.
