Fluvanna County School Board Revises
2012-13 School Calendar to Include
Parent Teacher Conferences and Furlough Days
On Wednesday, June 13, the Fluvanna County School Board adopted a revised 2012-13
School Calendar. The purpose of the revisions is to include designated dates for
Parent/teacher conferences and staff furlough days.
Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled each semester: First semester’s conference
date will be October 4; second semester, March 7. These will be early release days for
students and conferences will be held from 2 – 7 p.m. at each school. The dates
coincide with the end of the first and third nine-week grading periods. Parents who are
unable to attend conferences during this time will be given the opportunity to schedule
another time with their child’s teacher.
Due to the budget shortfall for 2012-13, the School Board approved furlough days when
staff will not report to work and schools will be closed. Staff members will not be paid for
furlough days and may not use leave. The School Division will use banked time in order
to meet the minimum requirement of 180 instructional days or 990 clock hours as
dictated by the State of Virginia. The furlough days will be October 5 and March 8 for all
staff. Administrators will have an additional furlough day on November 21.

� Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the New High School will be on Sunday,
August 5 at 4 p.m. Tours will be from 4:30 – 6 p.m.
� Open House Days-
o High School will hold an Open House on Wednesday, August 8 from 12 – 8
p.m.
o Carysbrook Elementary, Central Elementary, Columbia Elementary,
Cunningham Elementary, and Fluvanna Middle School will hold an Open
House on Thursday, August 9 from 12 – 8 p.m.
� High School Dedication Ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 14 at 4 p.m.

� School Bus Routes will be publicized the week of July 16, 2012.
� School Attendance Zones will be posted on our website the week of July 16, 2012.
� Any student who wishes to attend a school located outside their assigned attendance zone,
must have an application submitted for approval no later than August 1, 2012. Please
contact your school principal to request an application.
� Transportation will not be provided for students who attend a school outside their assigned
attendance zone. All questions related to transportation should be directed to Ms. Cannon at
434-589-4342 or by email (jcannon@apps.fluco.org).
