Boys’ basketball
On Feb. 21, the boys’ basketball team
played against Warren. The fi nal score
was 82-56 with Fluvanna taking the
win. Highlights of the night included
freshmen Jalen Harrison and Vinny
Agee who performed amazing dunks
on Warren.
Next, the boys took on the Charlottesville
Black Knights on Feb. 23. Senior
YaYa Anderson made his fi rst free
throw, only to miss his second one.
Luckily for the Flucos, the Knights also
missed their shot. As the game came
down to its nail-biting conclusion, and
with only a minute to go, Anderson
scored the winning basket, giving Fluvanna
a 47-46 win. This was the fourth
game the Flucos have played against
Charlottesville in the regional fi nals,
winning only three.
On Feb. 25, the Flucos nailed down
the victory that secured them a win
at the Regional II Division 3 championships.
Taking on John Handley, the
Flucos pulled out a 64-57 victory, with
Anderson scoring 31 points, eight assists
and six rebounds. Freshman Vin-
ny Agee also scored a signifi cant 15
points.
Meanwhile, for the second year in a
row, YaYa Anderson was named Region
II Division 3 Player of the Year, while
Fluco coach Munro Rateau again received
Coach of the Year.
“Every game from here on out is
more important than ever,” said player
Jalen Harrison, “because you either
win or you’re done for the season and
we want to send our seniors out with
a state championship.” The Flucos will
play James Monroe on March 2 at 8:45
p.m. at the James Madison University
Convocation Center at James Madison
University.
Indoor track
The Fluco girls had their district
meet at Fork Union Military Academy
on Feb. 8. Senior Greer Brown placed
3rd in long jump with 15 ft and 9 in.,
while sophomore Hannah Meador
placed 5th with 15 ft and 6 in. In the
women’s high jump, Brown placed
1st with 5 ft. She also placed 2nd in
the triple jump with 34 ft. Meanwhile,

freshman Maddy Kline placed 4th with
33 ft, and sophomore Hannah Meador
placed 5th with 32 ft. Juniors La’ Dietra
Jackson and Courtney Searcy both
placed in shot put, with Searcy coming
in 2nd and Jackson in 3rd, both with
34 ft. Sophomore Nicki Douma placed
2nd in the 1000 Meter Run, while senior
Aesia Toliver placed 4th in the 55
Meter Dash. The Fluco girls competed
in regionals on Feb. 14, with Meador
breaking the regional meet record and
Kline winning 500 regionals.
At the VHSL Group AA championships
on Feb. 25, the girls’ team fi nished in
11th place. Greer Brown earned a second
place fi nish in the long jump, and
seventh place fi nish in the triple jump.
Flucos Hannah Meador and Chance
Parmly won the indoor pole vault titles.
The 200 meter relay team of Brown,
Kline, Aesia Toliver, and Emily Farina,
came in 8th place.
