She will discuss herwork as an integral part of theconcert. Her compositional stylecombines influences from Cuban andAmerican music, incorporating bothpopular and classical styles.ProgrAM NotesDance with Me in the Dark: MaureenReyes Lavastida. (La Habana, 1986).Especially composed in February 2013and dedicated to James Forger andDeborah Moriarty.Dance with Me in the Dark is an intimate andprovocative dance between the saxophone andthe piano. I called this musical conception adance since it combines a stage-like melody ofrhythmic dialogue and movement.With a total length of approximately sevenminutes, this piece blends elements of Cubanmusic and syncopations that are feltthroughout the play. Inspiration comesafterward when we understand that theinterpreters of the piece are not only partnersin music, but also in their personal life.
