While Iwas unable to attend, a number of parents have indicated thatthe boys had their best performances of these pieces and that recent rehearsals hadbeen reaping excellent rewards. Mrs Tank has been toiling tirelessly to prepare theseboys throughout a busy season for the Performing Arts faculty having just completed theseason of the school musical, The Russian Lieutenant. Not only has the Junior Choir shone the IGS beacon in the community lately but a numberof year levels have travelled out into Ipswich and Brisbane for academic excursions. Each and every time a group returns from an excursion, it is followed by praise forour boys from random members of the community. Our boys really do shine with theirmanners, courtesy and demeanour.Extra curricular activities continue to roll forward with Art Club groups working closelywith Miss Caton, Junior Chess Club students meeting regularly with Mrs McGrath,Chess Club working closely with two external coaches and Mrs Lewis, and Debatingkicking off this week with Mrs Lewis, Dr Fanshawe and me. It is pleasing to see so manyboys avoiding stereotypical images of boys which are portrayed in the media and bypeers, and seeking many varied experiences in all forms of sport, culture, service andperforming arts. Without these experiences, our boys would not be equipped to makeinformed decisions about the activities that they wish to pursue or even those in whichthey have undiscovered talent.ICAS ScienceAll Year 3 to 6 students will be participating in the International Competitions andAssessments for Schools (ICAS) Science this year. Throughout the day the boys were involved in manyhands on experiments to learn how things work. Some of the favourites included the spinning chair, testing how fast you canthrow a ball, and racing against a professional athlete in a running race. Keen to test their skills at everything they learnt a greatdeal about how we use energy and the effects of force and motion in everyday life. These were great supplements to our unit ofwork this term, “Smooth Moves” where we have been looking at this in great detail. Check out the pictures of the day and you’llsee all the boys had a great time!CongratulationsWell done Alexander Jacobson-Jones for receiving a Highly Commended for Instrumental Solo-Consolation in the 10 to 12 yearssection at the Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod.Junior School: 3813 9630 - Absentees: 3813 9666 - Junior School Fax: 3280 1384 - BASC: 0439 077 650sperrem@ipswichgrammar.com - dmacknish@ipswichgrammar.com - basc@ipswichgrammar.com
