We pray for those awaitingthe “Good News” of our Lord’s great love for usand for the missionaries who offer the poor and sufferingthe light of Christ. And we are to offer financialhelp through the Society for the Propagationof the Faith, the Eastern Europe and Latin AmericaCollections.Prayer and sympathy are offered forthe family of Duane Lashua who wascalled home to the Lord. May his souland all the souls of the faithful departedrest in peace and glory.WILL WE GIVE CHEERFULLY?NEENAHI remember racing home from school with my reportcard, blazing with great marks. After careful scrutiny, mydad would say there was still room for improvement.Today’s gospel brings that memory back. I know that mydad was very proud of me; yet he was challenging me tobe better.When the rich young man eagerly approaches Jesus,he wants to make Jesus aware that he has lived a goodlife, that he has followed the commandments. Jesus“loved him” and then challenged him to do more, to bebetter, to use his wealth to help others on his journey tosalvation. The rich young man walked away—Jesus wasasking more than he could do.Jesus’ words demonstrate that the commandments aremeant as a framework for our faith; we are called to gobeyond “you shall not” and open ourselves to “you shall.”Faith fully lived is a call to action in our daily lives. Ourriches, whether material wealth, talents, or time, aremeant to be shared with others.We have often heard that God loves a cheerful giver.Weill we give cheerfully, or will we walk away?.Susan Berlingeri$CRIPWe did great.
