This enables students whocomplete the course and then gain anapprenticeship to articulate into the trade coursewith one year’s advanced standing.Entry requirementsThe school leaving age has changed fromJanuary 2010 and will impact on those who areunder 17 wishing to enrol.If you are: under 17 left school at or after the end of 2010 have not completed Year 10You must contact your school or school region toseek approval to leave school and undertake aYear 10 equivalent qualification at TAFE.More information for young people can be foundon the OTEN website at www.oten.edu.au.Students applying to enrol in this qualificationmust have completed the NSW School Certificate(or equivalent, from another educationalauthority) with passes in Mathematics, Scienceand English is recommended.Learners must either be in relevant employmentor have access to appropriate workplaceenvironments to achieve the completionrequirements of this course. Students mustcomplete minimum of 70 hours on the job trainingvia an organized relevant work placement. Thisrequirement can be met at the relevant practicalsessions which are conducted in a simulatedworkplace environment.The TAFE NSW fee and chargesThe TAFE NSW fee and the OTEN StudentMaterials and Handling Charge apply whenenrolling or re-enrolling with OTEN. You may choose to pay the TAFE NSW fee intwo instalments. The first instalment of $225 andthe OTEN Student Materials and HandlingCharge are paid on enrolment. TAFE NSW willsend you an invoice for payment of the secondinstalment.If you do not finish the course within 12 monthsand want to complete the course, you will need tore-enrol and pay the TAFE NSW fee and theOTEN Student Materials and Handling chargeagain.This course is generally open for enrolment atany time of the year, subject to the availability ofplaces in the course.Other associated costs:There are compulsory practical components aspart of this qualification. You will be required topay a fee for these in addition to your payment ofthe Annual TAFE NSW fee and the OTENStudent materials and handling charge.Practical Fee $75You will need to buy additional textbooks(approximate cost $300). You may be able toborrow these textbooks from a TAFE NSWlibrary. Additional reference materials are listed inyour learning materials.If you are a Temporary Visa Holder and you areeligible to enrol, you may need to pay additionaltuition fees depending on your visa subclassnumber. However, studentscan complete with OTEN in less than this time.You are encouraged to complete your coursewith the course timeframe, or earlier. Inexceptional circumstances you may apply for anextension of study by contacting your teachingsection.CentrelinkSome students may be eligible for financialassistance to study from Centrelink. Applicationsfor assistance are assessed by Centrelink, soyou should contact your nearest Centrelink officeto discuss your eligibility.If you receive a Centrelink student payment tostudy, you are expected to complete yourqualification within the time allocated byCentrelink. This time may be less than the timeOTEN allows.You are also required to show consistent andregular progress through your course, andcomplete units regularly throughout yourenrolment. If not, you may incur a Centrelink debtwhich you will have to repay.Conditions of enrolmentIt is a condition of your enrolment with OTEN thatyou actively participate in your studies. Activeparticipation is submitting assessments,attending practical sessions if applicable, sittingexams or tests, submitting an application forrecognition of prior learning, accessing activitiesand unit support pages on the Online LearningSupport (OLS) website, completing units ormaking satisfactory progress in learner supportand any other student interactions for the unit.If you do not participate in your studies,future enrolment applications may bedeclined.StructureThe course consists of the units of competency(units) listed below.
