Chaptermembers are involved in numerous campus organizations such as StudentGovernment Association, Gamma Beta Phi, German Club, Psi Chi, CampusCrusade for Christ, Intramural Sports, Upstate Cheerleaders, Psychology Club,and Orientation Staff. Notable accomplishments for chapter members includeChancellor’s List, Dean’s List, Grand Marshall at Graduation, and Greek Woman<strong>of</strong> the Year. One sister was awarded an internship at The White House. Thesisters <strong>of</strong> Phi Mu strive daily <strong>to</strong> live their creed. Love, Honor and Truth are lifelongideals <strong>of</strong> a Phi Mu lady.Phi Mu sisters raise awareness and money for their national philanthropy,Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). CMNH raises funds for over 170children’s hospitals across North America. Every donation given stays in thecommunity where it was donated; thereby ensuring local children receive thesupport. Phi Mu is committed <strong>to</strong> raising at least $500,000 for CMNH annually.The Upstate chapter hosts many philanthropic events <strong>to</strong> support CMNH. TheMr. Phi Mu Pageant, percent nights at local restaurants, CMN bracelet sales andChange for Change are a few examples.The chapter enjoys monthly sisterhood events that include movie nights,chapter dinners, bowling events and socials with other Greek organizations.The chapter is also dedicated <strong>to</strong> continuous life education <strong>of</strong> its members.The chapter regularly hosts programming on important <strong>to</strong>pics such as interviewskills, personal finances and health and fitness.Some notable Phi Mu’s are Kathryn S<strong>to</strong>ckett (author <strong>of</strong> The Help), Debbie Phelps(author and mother <strong>of</strong> Michael Phelps), Pat Mitchell (President <strong>of</strong> PBS), Mary Weber(astronaut) and Susan Harling (inspiration for the play and movie Steel Magnolias).Legacy 2013 12

Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The groupbecame an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929,when a charter was granted <strong>to</strong> Alpha chapter at Butler <strong>University</strong>.Soaring <strong>to</strong> greater heights <strong>of</strong> attainment around the world, Sigma Gamma Rho<strong>Sorority</strong>, Inc., as a leading national service organization, has met the challenges<strong>of</strong> the day and continues <strong>to</strong> grow through Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service.Members <strong>of</strong> the Pi Zeta Chapter, here at USC Upstate, are very active in thecommunity and continue <strong>to</strong> strive for “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” Wefocus on QUALITY not quantity.
