Zeta has a number <strong>of</strong> firsts; we were the first Greek letterorganization <strong>to</strong> be constitutionally bound <strong>to</strong> a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma, thefirst Greek letter organization <strong>to</strong> charter a chapter in Africa (1948), and the first<strong>to</strong> form adult and youth auxiliary groups.Legacy 2013 14

At the State Female Normal School (now Longwood<strong>University</strong>) in Farmville, Virginia, our Founders, nine young women, envisioned anorganization that would perpetuate their ties <strong>of</strong> friendship. We strive <strong>to</strong> help all <strong>of</strong>our members embody these timeless values while thriving in the modern world. Asour Creed says, “In Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity <strong>to</strong> learn those things whichwill ever enrich and ennoble our lives.”Every year, the sisters <strong>of</strong> the Kappa Rho chapter devote countless hours <strong>to</strong> raisingmoney <strong>to</strong> fight against breast cancer through education, awareness, and research.“Think Pink” is a registered trademark <strong>of</strong> ZTA and can be seen on products suchas Yoplait yogurt lids, which are collected <strong>to</strong> raise money for the ZTA Foundation.Through ZTA’s partnership with the NFL, members also distribute ribbons <strong>to</strong>pr<strong>of</strong>essional football fans across the nation. Kappa Rho also volunteers at theSusan G. Komen Race for the Cure, hosts “Pink Out” Athletic events on campus,and sponsors several fundraisers throughout the community.Zeta Tau Alpha <strong>of</strong>fers each member the opportunity <strong>to</strong> develop <strong>to</strong> her fullestpotential while maintaining a balance between academic, leadership, communityservice, and social endeavors. The mot<strong>to</strong> <strong>of</strong> Zeta Tau Alpha, “Seek the Noblest,”can be seen through leadership positions held by Zetas in many <strong>of</strong> the USCUpstate’s campus organizations. In the past, Kappa Rho has been honored <strong>to</strong> beGreek Week and Homecoming Champions, as well as Zeta Day winners.
