The site nowoccupied by <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> waspart of Brisbane's original port.Naldham House (now theBrisbane Polo Club) was builtfor the Australasian UnitedSteam Navigation Company.The site was in ownershipof both the QueenslandGovernment and theInchcape Group of the UK.F. A. Pidgeon & Son purchasedthe part of the site owned bythe Inchcape Group with theintention of developing anoffice building in the future.Folkestone Limited joined the project and entered intoa joint venture arrangement with F. A. Pidgeon & Son.Obayashi Corporation of Japan was invited to participate asthe Project Head Contractor. The Joint Venture appointedIndosuez Australia to arrange finance. Cameron Chisholm& Nicol Architects were appointed to design the complex.Constructioncommenced inSeptember.In December AMP Society purchasedthe <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> complex from theJoint Venture partners.Construction was completed twentyseven months later on Christmas Eve.<strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> was officiallyopened on 15 February byPremier of Queensland theHonourable Wayne Goss.AMP Funds sold 20 percentof <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> to RoninProperty Group.Stockland Group purchased 50 percent share of the<strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> office tower and 100 percent share ofthe adjoining retail complex, Eagle Street Pier. Westpacpurchased the remaining half share of <strong>Waterfront</strong><strong>Place</strong>, later selling it to Stockland’s unlisted propertyfund, Stockland Direct Office Trust No 1.Stockland embarked on its RefinementProgram implementing a completerenovation of <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong>, futureproofingits position as Brisbane’spremier place to do business fordecades to come.50 percent of <strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> was acquiredby Future Fund. The property is now owned injoint venture with the Stockland Group.<strong>Waterfront</strong> <strong>Place</strong> celebrates its 21st Birthday.Completionof RefinementProgram.
