ProbesThe measurement accuracy of theFISCHERSCOPE ® MMS ® is determinedprimarily by the proper choice of measuringprobe. FISCHER offers a broadassortment of probes for various applications.The type E... FISCHER probescontain a memory chip in the probe plugthat stores the master calibration of theprobe. Therefore the probe is immediatelyready to measure when connected tothe instrument. The table to the rightshows a selection of standard probes.More detailed specifications can befound in the probe catalog(Order No. 902-052).Probe SelectionProper probe selection determine thequality of the measurement. Probe selectionis determined by various criteria.• Coating/substrate material combinationdetermines the test method –magnetic (Hall effect), magnetic induction,Eddy current or electrical resistance.• Thickness of coating and substrateare also important for the selection ofthe test method used. The measurementrange is determined by the coatingthickness.• Geometric configuration of the measurementarea. The probe shape isdetermind by the geometric configurationof the measurement area. Radial,axial, and right angle probes are available.These probe designs allow foreasy measurements on the inner andouter surfaces of the specimen. Thecurvature of the measurement area isanother aspect to be considered.• The surface roughness of the measurementarea should be taken intoconsideration; for instance, two-poleprobes will usually tender better resultson rough surfaces than single-poleprobes.Magnetic Induction Probes to Measure the Coating ThicknessDesign Type Meas. range µm (mils) Order No.EGAB1.3* 0 - 2000 (0 - 80) 601-793EGABI1.3-1500 - 1000 (0 - 40) 601-932EKB10 0 - 8000 (0 - 320) 602-225Magnetic Probes to Measure the Coating ThicknessDesign Type Meas. range µm (mils) Order No.0 - 150 (0 - 6)EN3*Ni/NE, Iso100 - 4000 (4 - 160)NE/Fe602-305Eddy Current Probes to Measure the Coating ThicknessDesign Type Meas. range µm (mils) Order No.ETA3.3 0 - 1200 (0 - 45) 602-797ETA3.3H 0 - 1200 (0 - 45) 602-128EAW3.3 0 - 1200 (0 - 45) 602-025EAI3.3-150 0 - 800 (0 - 32) 602-026ETD3.3 0 - 800 (0 - 32) 602-607EA30 0 - 20.000 (0 - 800) 602-027ESD2ESC2Cu/Fe: 0 - 80 (0 - 3.2)Zn/Fe: 0 - 200 (0 - 8) 602-308Ni/Fe: 0 - 50 (0 - 2)Cu/Iso: 0 - 90 (0 - 3.6)602-237Cr/Cu: 0 - 200 (0 - 8)ESL08A 5 - 80 (0.02 - 3.2) 602-224ESG20 - 800 (0 - 32)0 - 100 (0 - 4)602-311Electrical Resitance Probe to Measure the Coating ThicknessDesign Type Meas. range µm (mils) Order no.ERCUCu/Iso:0 - 10 (0 - 0.4)5 - 120 (0.02 - 4.5)602-61614NE: non-ferromagnetic material; Iso: electrically non-conductive and non-ferromegnetic materialsCable length: 1.5 m (590“); longer cable length on request.* Also available as right angle probe, same design as EWA3.3.
