E D U C AT I O NIN-HOUSE PROGRAMSARTful Adventure SundaysChildren and their families engaged in interactiveart workshops, as well as live performances bytalented actors, musicians and dancers fromthe community. Five arts presentations wereoffered, reflecting literature, music, art, cultureand theatre.Story Time at the MuseumIn partnership with the Boca Raton Public Library,the Museum hosted three-week storytellingseries for students in grades 1 through 5. StoryTime links preselected children’s literature withan exhibited work of art and gave students thechance to explore the Museum’s galleries in arelaxed yet focused and interactive setting.Family DayEngaging and fun family programming includeda short film, an interactive art-making activityand live theatrical, musical and danceperformances.Meet a Master, Create a MasterpieceOnce a month, staff educators provided childrenin grades 3 through 5, with an opportunity tolearn about a master artist whose works wereon exhibit at the Museum and then create amasterpiece in the style of the selected artist.Music at the MuseumThe creativity inherent in music was celebratedat the Museum with various genres of musicsuch as jazz, vocal pop and classical, performedlive in the Museum’s galleries. This in-seasonprogram has become a favorite for visitorsof all ages.FilmsFilms shown throughout the year related to theMuseum’s Permanent Collection and temporaryexhibitions. The Museum also hosted the series,Films for a Summer Afternoon. Approximately3,000 viewers enjoyed the 77 films shown atthe Museum.From the Artist’s PerspectiveLocal working artists led monthly dynamicdiscussions on art-making, the creative processand revealed their critical insights intoart exhibited at the Museum. The programencouraged a dialogue between artists insouth Florida, the community and the Museum.Gallery Talks and LecturesGallery talks provided adults with an opportunityto discover the masterpieces in the Museum’sPermanent Collection. Conducted by educationstaff, the format allowed for more intimatediscussion in analyzing and interpreting worksof art. In addition to gallery talks, the EducationDepartment solicited scholars and critics, bothlocally and nationally, to broaden the experiencefor Museum visitors with lectures aboutexhibitions and Museum collections.Curator’s Highlight ToursMuseum Senior Curator Wendy Blazierpresented monthly in-depth tours of theMuseum’s changing exhibitions, lending greaterinsight into the artists and individualmasterworks on exhibition.BOCA RATON MUSEUM OF ARTANNUAL REPORT 15
