Middle School DanceTeam Ends the Seasonwith a Nap!MS school dance team completed theirfall season with several outstanding performancesat football games, assembliesand lip sync! After their 6:30 am AwardsBreakfast, the girls took a quick nap beforebeginning the school day! Award recipientswere: Maddie May–Outstanding 6th grader,Sydni Frazier–Outstanding 7th grader, RileyPinto–Outstanding 8th grader, Lexi Lee–Most Valuable Dancer and Lily Saxton–theprestigous Crusader Award. The team iscoached by Chris Harper and Haley Wheat.6Middle SchoolCross CountryThe Middle School Cross Country Teambrought four team trophies back to Faithfrom the Championship race that tookplace on Thursday, October 18th, to completethe 2012 season. The 6th gradegirls took third place. The second placetrophy was awarded to the girls’ and theboys’ 7th/8th grade teams. Michelle Reissfinished the 1.5-mile course in 10:55 toreceive the 2nd place medal. She was followedby teammates Colby Cruden-5th,Taylor Bertges-6th, and Sadie Oakley-7th.On the boys’ side, 10 Crusader runnersfinished in the top 20. Athan Kelman completedthe course in 4th place and BradyRohnkohl in 6th. It was the outstandingperformances by the 6th grade boys thatearned them the first place trophy. BrevinWalter and William Sigler finished the 1-mile course 7 minutes to medal in 2nd and3rd place. Jack Bricker finished in 4th andAJ Reed in 7th. The boys team finishedin 4th place at Regionals, and were led by Chase Wood who finished in 4th place, AlexRios in 5th, Paul Stephens in 16th, Brandon McCormick in 32nd, Connor Carrillo in49th, Ian Tornello in 75th, and Matt Garcia in 82nd to round out our varsity team.The girls finished off their season with a 4thVarsity Dance Team“Lights the Night”!Faith Lutheran’s Varsity Dance Teamparticipated in the Light The NightWalk benefiting the Leukemia &Lymphoma Society.place team finish at the state meet. The team needed only threegames to dispose of the Chaparral Cowboysto earn the #1 seed for the 2012State Championship Tournament. All SunsetLeague MVP was Taylor Richards. AllLeague 1st team selections were TaylorHammer, Gianni Perryman, Sam Leonard,Lindsey Flangas and Courtney Hansen.1st Team All-Region selections were TaylorRichards, Taylor Hammer, Sam Leonard,Lindsey Flangas and Courtney Hansen.Gianni Perryman received 2nd Team All-Region. Coach Fisher was named All-RegionCoach of the year.On November 9th, the team traveled toReno for the State Championship tournament,their first appearance since 2006.The team faced South Tahoe in the statesemifinal match. It was a very competitivefive-game match in which the Crusaderscame up a little short in their bid for a statechampionship. The team lost 24-26, 25-21,25-13, 25-27 and 12-15. The Crusaderswere honored once again with all-stateselections. 1st Team All-State selectionswere Taylor Richards, Taylor Hammer, SamLeonard and Gianni Perryman. 2nd TeamAll-State selection was Lindsey Flangas andHonorable Mention All-State was CourtneyHansen. Coach Fisher was named NevadaState Coach of the Year.The Crusaders finished the season 30-10 and undefeated in conference play.Congratulations Crusader Volleyball on anincredible year! We are very proud of you.The Lady Crusaders finished off theseason as State Runner-up to Pahrump ValleyHigh School. The girls lost a hard-foughtmatch and came up just short of their preseasongoal to be 1-A State Champions. Theseason will go down as one of the best inthe short history of the program. The teamfinished with an overall record of 17-7-2 andbrought home a Regional championship.Other noteworthy accomplishments fromthe season include beating Arbor View (Division1 State Champion), Palo Verde, andVarsity Girls’ Soccertaking second place in the Sunset League.Individual honors include All-Division 1stTeam for Kristi Chinn, Emily Neighbors,and Arianna Weide, and All-Division 2ndTeam for Dani Tharaldson and Julia Benko.The team graduates five seniors (BrynneBeagle, Julia Benko, Arianna Weide, KellyZufall, and Manager Sam Jones) but has agood, young core returning next season totry again for the first State championshipfor girls’ soccer at Faith Lutheran. Congratulationson a great season, ladies!Boys’ SoccerThe boys soccer team had asuccessful 2012 season. Overallthe team finished with a recordof 14-9-4 and 9-2-3 in leagueplay. With that record, the teamfinished second in the regularseason standings and qualifiedfor the regional tournamentfor the first time since 2008.Throughout the course of theseason the boys outscored theiropponents 71 goals to 54 andalso created six shutouts. With the team’s success, many players were honored by othercoaches in the league by their play on the field. In the 1A Sunset League first team selectionswere D’Khari Hicks at forward, Sam Stevens at midfield, Seongjae Hong at defense,and Tristan Tomburo at the utility position. 1A Sunset League second team selectionswent to Harat Khachoyan at forward and Randal Colquitt at midfield. Sean Kay and CarterBishop were selected to the Honorable Mention team. With the Sunset and Sunrise joiningto form the 1A Southern Division, Faith also had players honored on this team as well.First team selections were D’Khari Hicks at forward, Sam Stevens at midfield and TristanTomburo at utility. Seongjae Hong was selected to the second team.For the season, D’Khari Hicks lead the team with 32 goals and 15 assists. Sam Stevensalso contributed 13 goals and Harut Khachoyan netted nine goals. In the assist categoryTristan Tomburo aided the team with six of his own followed by Sam Stevens with five. Ingoal Carter Bishop totaled a new season high of 197 saves for the year. The team was ableto achieve success this past season with a core group of seniors that led the team: DylanCheck, Cooper Rhodes, Sean Callan, Seongjae Hong, Sam Stevens, and D’Khari Hicks.The team will look to continue on the success these players have left for the program.The Varsity Boys team made school history for being named the Academic State Championsin Division 1A. The boys earned the highest team GPA out of all the boys teams inNevada. Congratulations to all the soccer players this past season for all their hard workon the field and in the classroom.7
