These wouldbe displayed in over 1,000 schools anddistributed to Interact Clubs, municipalschools and housing societies.For its part, the Traffic Departmentpresented commendatory certificatesto District Governor Vijay Jalan,Chairman Deepak Kapadia and theRotaract Club of H. R. College for takingactive part in the road safety campaign.The formal programme was followedby a question-answer sessionin which the police personnel answeredall the questions posed to themby the students.One of them lauded the traffic policefor its excellent management of trafficduring VIP movements and duringGanapati, Diwali and other festivals;another asked why the fine for drunkdrivingwas not increased; a third wonderedwhy more money was not beingspent on infrastructure, given therapid increase in the number of vehicles.The Deputy Commissioner, Mr.Nandkumar Chaugule, revealed thatthe traffic police had indeed submitteda proposal to double the fine ondrunk-driving. As for infrastructure,he said the government would constructmore flyovers, sealinks, bridgesand better roads. These would be takenup for implementation very soon.The H.R. Rotaractors presented thedelightful skit on road safety that theyhad performed at the Rotary Club ofBombay on September 13.Little children from the MunicipalSchool at Marol (near Sahar internationalairport) took the stage to performa skit of their own and to rendersongs that stressed on the need forroad safety. These children were escortedby SafeKids Foundation whichhad been collaborating with the RoadSafety Committee.The programme was compered byJunaid Khan, President of the RotaractClub of H.R. College.Deepak has thanked Mrs. CymbelinePereira, the Interact Coordinator,for galvanising the Clubs underher care.Well done, Deepak.
