Selection criteriaQualifications• Registrable as a medical practitioner with theAustralian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency(AHPRA).• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College ofPhysicians or equivalent.• A higher academic degree (PhD or MD) <strong>in</strong> medic<strong>in</strong>eis essential.• Professional qualifications and practical experience<strong>in</strong> a health-related field, and/or a record of academicachievement <strong>in</strong> <strong>edu</strong>cation <strong>in</strong> a health-related field.• Wide experience <strong>in</strong> any cl<strong>in</strong>ical discipl<strong>in</strong>e (preferencemay be given to cardiometabolic and diabeticmedic<strong>in</strong>e, hypertension, cl<strong>in</strong>ical nutrition, geriatricsand stroke medic<strong>in</strong>e) at hospital consultant level orits equivalent.• Evidence of a strong track record <strong>in</strong> world-classcl<strong>in</strong>ical research <strong>in</strong> a chosen specialty demonstratedwith publications, collaborations and success <strong>in</strong>national fund<strong>in</strong>g applications.Conditions of employment<strong>The</strong> appo<strong>in</strong>tment will be for a fixed term period of sevenyears, and is located full-time at the Royal Perth Hospitalcampus. Faculty of Medic<strong>in</strong>e, Dentistryand Health Sciences<strong>The</strong> Faculty of Medic<strong>in</strong>e was <strong>in</strong>itially established <strong>in</strong>1956. <strong>The</strong> medical course is undertaken at the CrawleyCampus of the University and the community healthcentres, and <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g hospitals: Armadale-Kelmscott Memorial Hospital, Bentley Hospital,Fremantle Hospital, Graylands Hospital, HollywoodPrivate Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus, K<strong>in</strong>gEdward Memorial Hospital for Women, Osborne ParkHospital, Pr<strong>in</strong>cess Margaret Hospital for Children,Rock<strong>in</strong>gham General Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital,Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Swan District Hospitaland St John of God Hospital (Subiaco).<strong>The</strong> Faculty of Dentistry, orig<strong>in</strong>ally name Faculty ofDental Science, was established <strong>in</strong> 1946. Teach<strong>in</strong>g isundertaken at the Crawley Campus of the University, <strong>in</strong>the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia complex atthe Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre and at Pr<strong>in</strong>cessMargaret Hospital for Children. <strong>The</strong> comb<strong>in</strong>ed Facultyis now known as the Faculty of Medic<strong>in</strong>e, Dentistry andHealth Sciences.Specific <strong>in</strong>formation on the Faculty may be found atwww.meddent.<strong>uwa</strong>.<strong>edu</strong>.<strong>au</strong>School of Medic<strong>in</strong>e and PharmacologyOne of the largest and most complex Schools <strong>in</strong> theUniversity, Medic<strong>in</strong>e and Pharmacology is locatedat four primary sites and supports medical, dentaland science teach<strong>in</strong>g discipl<strong>in</strong>es. A close cl<strong>in</strong>icalliaison with several teach<strong>in</strong>g and private hospitals isma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed, with teach<strong>in</strong>g contributions delivered byover 250 cl<strong>in</strong>ical accorded status consult<strong>in</strong>g physicians.<strong>Research</strong> activities range from NHMRC, ARC andother competitive grants to large-scale cl<strong>in</strong>ical trials,government sponsored Centres of Excellence, and aCo-operative <strong>Research</strong> Centre (CRC).<strong>The</strong> RPH Unit of the School of Medic<strong>in</strong>e andPharmacology supports 15 cl<strong>in</strong>ical academic staff(<strong>in</strong> the specialties of respiratory medic<strong>in</strong>e, cardiology,diabetes and endocr<strong>in</strong>ology, renal medic<strong>in</strong>e,cardiometabolic medic<strong>in</strong>e and lipid disorders,<strong>in</strong>ternal medic<strong>in</strong>e, geriatric medic<strong>in</strong>e, oncology andrheumatology), and 15 senior research only staff, (5<strong>Research</strong> Professors <strong>in</strong> the discipl<strong>in</strong>e of Biochemistry,Systems Biology, Nutrition and Cl<strong>in</strong>ical Trials) and 5sessional cl<strong>in</strong>ical teach<strong>in</strong>g staff. <strong>The</strong> RPH Unit has21 general and technical staff and 34 senior cl<strong>in</strong>icalaccorded status staff and approximately 70 cl<strong>in</strong>icalteach<strong>in</strong>g staff with<strong>in</strong> Royal Perth Hospital and 17postgraduate students currently enrolled. RPH Medical <strong>Research</strong> Foundationand Royal Perth HospitalMedical <strong>Research</strong> Foundation<strong>The</strong> RPH Medical <strong>Research</strong> Foundation (MRF) is anot-for-profit organisation that has been <strong>in</strong>vest<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>biomedical research for over 20 years, focused <strong>in</strong>itially <strong>in</strong>a 6 storey research block at the RPH campus dedicatedto academic biomedical research and more recently <strong>in</strong>tocore <strong>in</strong>frastructure and personnel. <strong>The</strong> MRF build<strong>in</strong>ghas been the epicentre and powerhouse of research onthe RPH campus, with a concentration of high quality<strong>in</strong>vestigators perform<strong>in</strong>g a mixture of cl<strong>in</strong>ical and basicscience, epidemiology and biostatistical research, froma range of <strong>in</strong>stitutions, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g UWA and the WesternAustralian Institute for Medical <strong>Research</strong> (WAIMR).<strong>The</strong> cl<strong>in</strong>ical academic presence <strong>in</strong> the MRF build<strong>in</strong>ghas fostered a rich <strong>in</strong>teraction and <strong>in</strong>tegration betweenMRF build<strong>in</strong>g-based research activities and RPH cl<strong>in</strong>icalresearch.
