SPECIALTY CONTROL VALVES FOR UREA PLANTSOUTLINEPARCOL has started the production of specialtycontrol valves for urea plants in 1965; at present,approximately 200 production units where Parcolvalves are installed run with full satisfaction.1-4800 and 1-2311 series control valves are designedand manufactured so as to grant good service andlonger trouble free life with very reduced maintenance.The original and simple design of PARCOL valves aswell as the right selection of the part materials result ingreat success of the same.Materials are adequate for urea and carbamate fluidsand comply with the material specifications for thisservice of main Licensors such as Snamprogetti,Stamicarbon, Urea Casale and others.Connections are obtained directly on the single piecethat constitutes the valve body in order to keep downthe weight, whereas the shape of internals does notleave dead zones. In fact dead zones are a cause forcorrosion since carbamate strengthens its corrosiveaction particularly in these zones due to the failure ofoxygen protection (passivation).Available valve series are:PARCOL1-4800: contoured plug, split body angle controlvalve with three different models:1-4827 : General purpose control valve. (typicalservices: CO 2 to reactor, reactor vent,carbamate, ammonia).1-4829 : Contoured plug trim with intermediatepacking washing. (typical service:stripper letdown).1-4824 : Two stages, anti cavitation trim, cageintegral with seat (up to DN 6”).(typical service: carbamate pumpminimum recirculation flow).1-2311: high pressure butterfly control valve(typical service: carbamate fromreactor).GENERAL SPECIFICATIONSTo avoid any problems connected with corrosioncaused by environmental conditions stainless steel iswidely used for all valve and actuator components: allvalve bodies and actuators bolting, body intermediateflanges, clamping nut or screws for fixing the actuatorsto the bodies, all external packing parts, brackets forinstallation of pneumatic and electric accessories,pneumatic tubing and fittings are always supplied instainless steel.1-2311 SERIES1-4800 SERIES1-4800 series high pressure, split body, angle controlvalve have one-piece upper body obtained fromforged block of specialty stainless steel. Bonnetintegral with the body so as to avoid flangedconnection and dead zones, streamlined flow design,lenticular coupling between body and seat without theuse of any gasket, one- piece plug and stemconstruction, special packing design and the use ofparticular trim materials, tested on various plants formany years, are the main features which makePARCOL urea control valves as top as regards qualityand performances, at a reasonable price.Likewise, 1-2311 high pressure butterfly control valveshave one- piece body and disc obtained from forgedblock of specialty stainless steel and special packingdesign to warrant maximum reliability. Trim materialshave been selected by testing on various urea plantsfor many years to ensure maximum reliability andperformances.Valves can be supplied with various types of actuatorsaccording to the required thrusts to guarantee smooth,long lasting and reliable operation, according tospecified working conditions and service.The most used actuators are Parcol pneumatic series1-X-210 (linear) and 1-X-271 (rotary) with carbon steelyoke and side or top mounted handwheel.For 1-4800 series, when the required thrust does notallow the use of diaphragm actuators, heavy dutypneumatic piston and spring opposed type, Parcol 1-X-430 series are available. On piston actuators wormgear side mounted handwheel or top mountedhydraulic manual override can be provided. 1-X-430series piston actuators are of strong and particulardesign and construction so as to be supplied withinstrument air without any lubrication. SPECIALTY CONTROL VALVES FOR UREA PLANTSPARCOL1-4829 (with PACKING WASHING)Model 1-4829 control valves are similar to model1-4827 but with a particular guide and packing design.As well known to instrument Engineers who work onurea plants, the crystallization of urea into packing boxchamber result in detrimental effects both on integrityof packing sealing rings and polished surface of plugstem.The combined effects of continuous washing device ofupper part of packing box chamber with hot water atlow pressure and special hardening and polishing ofplug stem surface will avoid crystallization and packingleaks, and guarantee longer trouble-free-life of all trimand packing parts.For main specifications please refer to the ones ofmodel 1-4827 except for packing box construction withadditional proprietary device for continuous washing ofupper part of packing box chamber.1-4824 (ANTI CAVITATION TRIM)Model 1-4824 urea control valves are equal to model1-4827 except for specialty two stages trim expresslydesigned to avoid cavitation damages on highdifferential pressure services such as carbamatepump minimum recirculation flow.Second stage is realized by a lenticular seat built-incage. D25,D33, D39, D46 and D63 sizes are available.Floating stem construction minimizes frictions and backlashand significantly reduces mass and dimensions.The spring is preloaded in a suitable case, to makediaphragm replacement safer and simpler.The design allows replacing the actuator withoutdisassembling the valve or part of it.Standard diaphragm settings are 3÷15 psi (0.2÷1 bar), 6÷30psi (0.4÷2 bar), 20÷44 psi (1.4÷3 bar) with 20÷50 psi(1.4÷3.5 bar) supply in air-to-open and air-to-close flowdirections.Other spring ranges are available on request.Max operating pressure = 3.5 bar (50 psig).
