ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAEligibility criteria – General information• You must meet all of the criteria in either Option A or Option B (listed below) to apply for certification.• All experience earned during the eligibility criteria time frame must be earned as a registered nurse.NOTE: Experience as a registered practical nurse, registered psychiatric nurse, licensed practical nurse or otherhealth-care provider will not be considered.• Eligibility criteria must be met by the time you submit your application.• Attach all necessary documentation to ensure your application is considered.• All of the information requested on the application forms must be completed clearly and in full foryour eligibility to be accurately determined. Otherwise your application will not be considered.NOTE: Your fee will be processed immediately. Processing of your fee does not confirm eligibility.Eligibility Criteria – Initial CertificationAll Specialties/Areas of Practice EXCEPT OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND ENTEROSTOMAL THERAPYNOTE: One full-time year = 1,950 hoursOption A: For all nursing specialties/areas of nursing practice except occupationalhealth and enterostomal therapyAll of the following criteria apply:• You must be a registered nurse with current registration/licence in Canada.• You have accumulated a minimum of 3,900 hours as a registered nurse in your nursing specialty/areaof nursing practice over the past FIVE years in full-time, part-time or casual employment.• You have had the Endorsement and Verification of Experience section of the application form completedby your supervisor or a consultant in the nursing specialty/area of nursing practice.Option B: For all nursing specialties/areas of nursing practice except occupationalhealth and enterostomal therapyAll of the following criteria apply:• You must be a registered nurse with current registration/licence in Canada.• You have successfully completed a nursing degree (e.g., BScN, BN) or a post-basic nursing course orprogram in your nursing specialty/area of nursing practice of at least 300 hours (copies of officialdocuments are required and must be included with your application).• You have accumulated a minimum of 1,950 hours as a registered nurse in your nursing specialty/areaof nursing practice over the past THREE years in full-time, part-time or casual employment.• You have had the Verification of Experience and Endorsement section of the application formcompleted by your supervisor or a consultant in the nursing specialty/area of nursing practice.NOTE: If you are counting post-basic education as part of your eligibility criteria, you must submit with yourapplication a copy of your degree, certificate or diploma or a transcript of your final marks.
