Standard <strong>Club</strong> Constitutionand Bylaws adoptedMembers present at the last meeting<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Rotary</strong> year 2010-11, which was held on June 28, unanimouslyadopted the two mandatoryresolutions for the adoption <strong>of</strong> theStandard <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Constitutionand Bylaws.The two resolutions had been circulatedin advance to members and<strong>President</strong> Pradeep Saxena movedthem at the meeting for formal adoption.Both resolutions, the first foradoption <strong>of</strong> the Standard <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong>Constitution and the second for adoption<strong>of</strong> the Standard <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Bylaws,were carried unanimously.Birthday donations<strong>President</strong> Pradeep Saxena announcedat the last meeting thereceipt <strong>of</strong> birthday donations fromtwo members. While Ajit Lalvani hadcontributed Rs. 5,001, Shahzad Qadirhad given a sum <strong>of</strong> Rs. 2,001. Hethanked both members for their generosity.Earlier, at the meeting <strong>of</strong> June 21,<strong>President</strong>-Elect Paul George announcedthat a birthday donation <strong>of</strong>Rs. 10,000 had been received fromPP Vithal Palekar. Similarly, he said,Sunil Vaswani had also made a birthdaydonation <strong>of</strong> Rs. 5,000.The elegant Zia Mody will open the inningsThe well-known legal luminary,the elegant Ms Zia Mody, whois a Senior Partner <strong>of</strong> the law firm <strong>of</strong>AZB & Partners with <strong>of</strong>fices in<strong>Bombay</strong>, Delhi and Bangalore, willaddress the <strong>Rotary</strong> <strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bombay</strong>at its regular meeting on July 12.She will open the innings for <strong>President</strong>Paul George and for ProgrammeChair Dolly Thakore and her team inthe new <strong>Rotary</strong> year by speaking on“Life in law”.Ms Mody did her law at CambridgeUniversity and then hoppedacross to the US for her LL.M. atHarvard University. Thereafter, sheworked with Baker & McKenzie inNew York from 1979 to 1983 andwas admitted as a member <strong>of</strong> the NewYork State Park by examination.Her primary practice consists <strong>of</strong>mergers and acquisitions, private equity,securities laws, BPO-relatedwork and litigation. She has practicedin Indian courts for over 15 years asCounsel and has advised several internationaland Indian clients in significantM&A transactions.Ms Mody was selected as one <strong>of</strong>the 25 most powerful women in Indianbusiness by Business Today inSeptember, 2004, and as one <strong>of</strong> India’s100 most powerful CEOs by TheEconomic Times in 2005. She has alsobeen awarded the honorific “BusinessWoman <strong>of</strong> the Year-2003” by TheFinancial Express in the categoryBest Knowledge Manager.Apart from her dedication to herlegal practice, Ms Mody is a committedBaha’i by religion and servesas a member on various Baha’iorganisations and Baha’i-sponsoredNGOs in the field <strong>of</strong> education andempowerment <strong>of</strong> rural women.She is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Board<strong>of</strong> Directors <strong>of</strong> the Hong Kong andShanghai Banking Corporation, HongKong.Without a doubt,he’s a jollygood Fellow!PP Arvind Jolly has made yetanother donation – for thefourth year in a row – <strong>of</strong> US$25,000 to The <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation.The amount will be credited to thePaul Harris Endowment Fund.With this, Arvind’s contributionto The <strong>Rotary</strong> Foundation over theyears has reached the magical figure<strong>of</strong> $100,000.<strong>President</strong> Pradeep Saxena announcedthe donation at the lastmeeting <strong>of</strong> the previous <strong>Rotary</strong>year, held on June 28, 2011, andasked Arjun Jolly, who was present,to convey the <strong>Club</strong>’s thanks to hisfather Arvind.Well done, Arvind! The firstSpecial Award was for PP ArunSanghi for his continuous supportto the <strong>Club</strong> newsletter, The Gateway,through advertisements. Unfortunately,Arun could not attend themeeting on account <strong>of</strong> a health problem.But <strong>Rotary</strong>ann Bijal Kara waspresent to receive the second SpecialAward for her outstanding participationin the Bhavishya-Yaan project atthe Colaba Municipal School.And the third Special Award wentto Alok Sekhsaria for his outstandingcontribution and efforts to makethe Bhavishya-Yaan project the secondKohinoor project <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Rotary</strong><strong>Club</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bombay</strong>.But one shield remained. This wasthe one received from the MumbaiPolice in recognition <strong>of</strong> “his invaluableThe PDG Late Santoshcontribution in organising a spe-Agarwalla Trophy for Best WomanMember <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Club</strong> (instituted byPP Sandip Agarwalla) was presentedto Shernaz Vakil.Suresh Goklaney, who is theMD <strong>of</strong> Eureka Forbes Ltd., was presentedwith the Award for CorporateSocial Responsibility (donatedby PP Harry Singh Arora in memory<strong>of</strong> his mother, the late RajkarniArora).Finally, Ramesh Narayan wasthe popular recipient <strong>of</strong> the Rotarian<strong>of</strong> the Year Award (donated by ZiniaLawyer in memory <strong>of</strong> her motherMehroo Irani).Apart from the above annualawards, <strong>President</strong> Pradeep also pre-Honouring him for a job well done.
