Family Day Care Workforce DevelopmentResearch Project Final Report, June 2011Development of Job DescriptionsThe research identified a lack of job descriptions within the FDC sector. The development of jobdescriptions for educators and unit coordinator staff was seen as an effective way to promote theFDC sector as well as promote consistency and quality services delivery across the sector.ActionCS&HISC will work closely with the Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) to develop jobdescriptions for the FDC workforce.Career Pathway ChartThe development of a career pathway chart that shows potential horizontal and vertical careerpathways within the FDC sector and the broader Children’s Services industries is recommended. It is believed that this career pathway chart will promote the FDC sector as a career of choice forearly childhood education and care.ActionA Career Pathway chart was developed as part of this project and can be found inthe body of the report.Development of Induction KitIn order to promote quality service delivery and a national approach to compliance it isrecommended that a national ‘Induction Kit’ be developed. This resource kit will include the mapping of existing induction and orientation processes tosuitable units of competency that sit within the accredited Family Day Care qualification (draftCertificate IV in Family Day Care work). The FDC Induction Kit could include:• an induction training program• learning resources• assessment tools. The FDC Induction Kit would be a valuable national resource available to all RTOs and FDCSchemes to support accredited training requirements. At the completion of the induction training program educators (subject to being deemedcompetent) would receive credit towards an accredited Family Day Care or Children’s Servicesqualification. This recommendation aligns to a key strategy within the Family Day Care Australia’s five year plan;Working for a Stronger Future (2010) which supports the inclusion of accredited Children Services’specific qualifications into FDC induction processes.ActionCS&HISC is skilled in this area of development work however, the development ofthese materials is a substantial piece of work and would require additional fundingto be undertaken.Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council: www.cshisc.com.auXV
