02 03What we have in common withconnoisseurs and bon vivants.Love of good wine. Many years of experience in the careful handling of grapes. The vision to bringout the best in every vine ... This is the philosophy of Scharfenberger Maschinenbau. Foundedin the middle of a wine-growing region, our family-run business has been closely linked toviticulture from the beginning. Over the years we have grown in a naturally way and are now afull-line provider in the grape processing sector. In doing so, we have always combined traditionand innovation under one roof: tradition as in setting high standards at every stage and preciselymeeting our customers' needs, innovational spirit as in continually searching for new solutionsand technologies in order to optimize operating processes. After all, our customers and we havethe same goal: to meet highest demands.

04 05About down-to-earth beginningsand new horizons.1928 – a good yearOur company was founded in 1928 as a small family-run company which initially focused on selling and repairingwinemaking equipment. Inspired by the direct communication with winemakers and our own experiences westarted to develop and build our own winemaking equipment as early as in the 1940s. One example is the legendary"Vintner’s Horse" which could be converted from plough into sprayer and vice versa in just a few simple steps.Even back then, we adhered to the same principle as today:To develop high-quality and effective products which are easy to operate and maintain at the same time.By and by we acquired more and more know-how and set up a dedicated production department for planningand manufacturing complete grape processing systems in the 1950s.But this is not the end of the story …

About regional roots andworld-wide activities.A brilliant achievement around the globe06 07Many years of experience in viticulture, openness for innovative solutions and highest requirements for our ownproducts: These characteristics are "typical for Scharfenberger". The word got around among winemakers, andthe demand for our products increased. Scharfenberger reorganized its structure with a larger factory in order tocope with the growing tasks. The company established partnerships to be able to offer its customers integratedsolutions under one roof and instigated consistent research and development activities to continually improve itsperformance. In 1971, for instance, we launched the Europress, the first electronically controlled grape press with anexterior spindle, a milestone in our company history. In 1976, we set up a dedicated electronics department in orderto customize the control systems of our machinery to meet the practical requirements of our customers and toprovide optimum service. Today, 70 % of all Europress grape presses are customized special products. We arecertified according to DIN ISO 9001:2000 and Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC since March 2007.At present, Scharfenberger has 90 employees and operates world-wide with two branches in the USA and adistribution network covering all wine-growing regions of the world. Still today we are a family-run companywith its feet firmly on the ground – and a passion for a good drop …

18 19Passion and competenceR+S Kelterhaus und Kellereitechnologie GmbH and BraudWe are not alone in our love of good wine and premium quality. Therefore we opted for partners who apply the samehigh standards and are market leaders in their field.Over 25 years ago we took over the general agency for Braud grape harvesters, the leading manufacturer ofmechanical harvesting systems, which was another step towards rounding off our product family. We have alwaysfocused on a vivid exchange with our cooperation partner and could therefore contribute considerably to thedevelopment of Braud's harvesting systems, e.g. the harvester with side discharge which is now being produced inserie. Here, customers can rely on an all-round service: Our employees are always available for service andadvice, seven days a week during the harvest season.Who would be better at planning grape processing facilities and crush facility installations than experts whohave been dealing with viticulture for decades? This is why in 2001, we founded a joint-venture with thecompany Rieger, the leading tank manufacturer, under the name of R+S Kelterhaus und KellereitechnologieGmbH. The advantage for our customers:Two long-established companies combine their competences. R+S GmbH is responsible for projecting, planningand implementing all-round crush facility installations ranging from grape delivery to wine storage providingtrendsetting technology, innovative concepts and comprehensive service. For our customers this means: onlyone competent contact partner instead of many different suppliers, which is an excellent prerequisite for theproduction of fine wine.
