Speakers and TopicsThe <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> Munster inaugural coaching conference is aimed at all of ourcoaches or aspirational coaches. The aim of the conference is to provide coaches withinformation and materials that will assist in ensuring an effective season long approachto coaching within <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> Clubs.10:00am Conor CounihanWelcome and Opening AddressConor Counihan is the manager of the Cork Senior Football team. He has lead the team tofour Munster championships and two all <strong>Ireland</strong> championships. As CEO of St. Joseph’sFoundation, Conor has a wealth of experience in the field of intellectual disability and hasalways been a huge supporter of <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> Munster.10:30 Fiona MurrayEvent Selection and Readiness for CompetitionFiona Murray is the Education and Training Manager for <strong>SO</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong>, a post she has held for 8years. Fiona has a degree in Sport and Exercise Science as well as a masters in Medicine andScience in Sport and Exercise. She was Head of Delegation for the last world games. Fiona’ssession will look at how you, as a coach, can help guide your athletes to the most appropriatesport and event for them. She will also talk about exploring the different ways in which coachescan help their athletes to prepare before the competition season and what we can do when werealise an athlete is not yet ready to compete.11:45 Carol FarrellThe Everyday Athlete—Nutrition and HydrationCarol has an honours degree in Public Health and Health Promotion from Sligo IT. She hasworked with <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> for over four years, developing the Health PromotionProgramme and rolling it out to clubs. She also manages the Healthy Athlete Programme andis Clinical Director for the Health Promotion Discipline of the Healthy Athlete Programme.Carol’s session will focus on healthy lifestyle choices that will ensure our athletes are athletesevery day, not just on the day of competition.14:00 Fitness and FlexibilityThis session will cover the basic components of fitness, and then expand on one component,namely flexibility. He was also selected for the Britishand Irish Lions. During his career he achieved 72 Irish caps, and was part of an Irish grand slamwinning team. Since his retirement David Wallace has become involved with <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong><strong>Ireland</strong> as a non executive member of the board.15: 30 Susan McGillCase StudySusan McGill has been involved with <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> in Waterford and Munster for manyyears. She works with Brothers of Charity in Waterford and has a wealth of experience withregards to coaching within <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong>.
