2. OIL DRAIN LINE INSTALLATION(Engine oil-fed kits only. Applications with V-3 Superchargers skip ahead to step 4)NOTE: It is recommended that the lower oil panbe removed so that any chips from thefollowing precedure can be cleaned up.To do this, a seal cutter and silicone RTV(Permatex ultra grey: 82194 or equivalent)are required.A. Drain the engine oil.B. Remove the steel oil pan (optional).C. To provide an oil drain for the supercharger, it is necessaryto make a hole in the driver’s side of the aluminumupper oil pan. Find the proper location andcenter-punch the hole. (See Fig. 2-a.)D. Access to the oil drain location is restricted so a lowprofile or right-angle drill may be necessary.E. Drill a 1/8" hole at the center location. Use the supplied9/16" cutter to enlarge the pilot hole makingsure to break through easily (if the oil pan has notbeen removed) so that the cutout does not fall intothe pan.F. Thread the hole with a 3/8"NPT tap to approximately1/2" deep or until the fitting can be started. Pack theflutes of the tap with grease to minimize the amountof debris that gets into the engine. Access is restrictedso inserting the tap in a socket and then using aratchet to rotate it is helpful.G. Thoroughly clean the threaded area and the interiorof the engine. Apply a small amount of silicone sealerto the new threads. Apply more sealer to the3/8"NPT hose fitting and secure in the hole. Makesure a seal is formed all around the fitting.H. If necessary, reinstall the oil pan. Clean off the oldsealant and any oil from both surfaces, apply a .2"(5mm) wide bead of silicone RTV, install the panwithin five minutes and torque the screws to 74-82in-lbs (8.3-9.3 N-m) in a rotating sequence.I. Wait at least 30 minutes before refillingthe engine with oil.OIL DRAIN LOCATIONFig. 2-aP/N: 4NZ020-010©2008 Vortech Engineering, LLCAll Rights Reserved, Intl. Copr. 12. FINAL ASSEMBLY AND CHECKA. If your vehicle has gone over 20,000 miles since itslast spark plug change, it is a good idea to changethe spark plugs now, before test-driving.B. Make sure that oil drain to oil pan fitting is tight andthat the engine is filled with factory specified oil.Check the oil drain hose to make sure it is not touchingthe A/C pulley.C. Make sure that the vehicle is filled with 91 octane orhigher fuel before commencing a test drive.D. Check all fittings, nuts, bolts and clamps for tightness.WARNING:Do not attempt to operate the vehicleuntil ALL components are installed andALL operations are completed includingfinal check. Failure to do so maycause PREMATURE FAILURE OFMAJOR COMPONENTS.Fig. 12-aE. In order to check the accessory belt tension, turn onas many electrical loads as possible (headlights, A/C,etc) This will place maximum load on the alternatorat startup. If belt squeal is heard, tighten the belt tensioneruntil it is eliminated. This most often occursimmediately after starting the vehicle because thealternator is drawing maximum load.F. At this point, it is OK to start the vehicle. Verify thatthe gilmer belt is running smoothly. If wear is detectedon the side of the belt, it is probably too tight. If itis vibrating excessively, tighten until there is minimalmovement. Mildly rev the engine to check for beltsqueal.G. Turn off the vehicle and recheck all fluid levels andverify that no hoses, wires, etc. are near exhaustheaders or moving parts and that there is no fluidleakage.H. Test drive the vehicle by gradually working up to fullthrottle and paying close attention to any abnormalsounds or engine detonation.I. If belt squeal is heard, tighten the accessory belt tensioneruntil it is eliminated.J. Re-install the splash pan and the plastic enginecover. The engine cover will need to be trimmed toclear the accessory drive belt (see Fig. 12-a).Re-install the strut tower brace (if previouslyremoved).K. Read the STREET SUPERCHARGER SYSTEMOWNER’S MANUAL and return the WARRANTYREGISTRATION FORM within (30) days of purchasingyour supercharger system to quality for the3-year limited warranty.WARNING:Fig. 12-b (350Z)Fig. 12-c (G35)Never operate your engine at fullthrottle when the engine is cold.Always allow plenty of time for the oilto reach full operating temperaturebefore running above 2,500 RPM.Full supercharger operating temperatureis generally achieved only afterthe engine water temperature hasbeen at the normal indicated operatingrange for several minutes.P/N: 4NZ020-010©2008 Vortech Engineering, LLCAll Rights Reserved, Intl. 12.1. FINAL CHECK, CONT'DFor internally lubricated V3 units onlyThis supercharger has been factory pre-filled with specialVortech synthetic lubricant. Oil does not need to be addedto a brand new unit; however a fluid level check should beperformed.Prior to operating the supercharger on the vehicle and afterinstallation onto the vehicle:Remove the factory installed flat-head brass shipping plug(not the dipstick) from the top of the supercharger case.Replace the sealed shipping plug with the supplied “vented”plug. Do not operate the supercharger without it. Check thesupercharger fluid level.Fluid level checking procedure:1. Ensure that the .06” copper sealing washeris located on the dipstick base.2. Thread the clean dipstick into the unit untilit seats.3. Once the dipstick has seated, remove thedipstick from the unit. Fluid should registerin the crosshatched area on the dipstick.4. DO NOT OVERFILL!!! Drain excess fluid fromthe unit if it is above the maximum level onthe dipstick.Check the fluid level using the dipstick at least every 2,500miles.Initial supercharger fluid change must be performed at 2,500miles. The supercharger fluid must be changed at leastevery 7,500 miles.Drain the fluid, refill the unit with 4 oz. of Vortech V3 lubricatingfluid and then confirm proper oil level using the dipstick.DO NOT OVERFILL!!!WARNING:Use of any other fluid other than the specialVortech lubricant will void the warranty and maycause component failure.19P/N: 4NZ020-010©2008 Vortech Engineering, LLCAll Rights Reserved, Intl.
