Borseth Introduced as Head Basketball CoachBy: Andrew Gavin, GreenBay<strong>Phoenix</strong>.comApril 5, 2012Green Bay <strong>Athletics</strong> has hired KevinBorseth as the head women’s basketballcoach, Director of <strong>Athletics</strong> Ken Bothofannounced. Borseth compiled a 216-62record in nine seasons previously servingin the same capacity at Green Bay.“This is an exciting time for our University,our women’s basketball program andGreen Bay <strong>Phoenix</strong> <strong>Athletics</strong>,” said Bothof.“Having the chance to welcome Kevin andhis family back to Green Bay is a greatprivilege, and I know I speak for so manyfans when saying I am thrilled to knowthat this program will be under his leadershipmoving forward.”Under Borseth’s watch from 1998-2007,Green Bay advanced to the postseason inall nine seasons, including seven trips tothe NCAA Tournament. The <strong>Phoenix</strong> alsowon the regular season conference championshipin each of his nine seasons at thehelm, beginning a stretch that currentlystands at 14.Borseth has spent the past five seasonsas the head coach at the University ofMichigan, where he compiled an overallrecord of 87-73. Borseth took over a programthat had won just 21 games in theprior three seasons combined and led theWolverines to 19 wins and a postseasonberth in his first season in 2007-08.In five seasons at the helm at Michigan,Borseth led the Wolverines to three postseasons,including this past season’s tripto the NCAA Tournament, the program’sfirst since 2000-01.“My family and I are so thrilled to returnto Green Bay and to the many friends andfans in the community,” said Borseth. “Iam really excited to get to know the currentplayers on the team and to continueto move Green Bay women’s basketballforward.”All told, the 25-year head coaching veteranhas an impressive record of 528-232in his stints at Michigan Tech, Green Bayand Michigan.During his time at Green Bay, Borseth wasnamed the conference coach of the yearseven times and led the program to itsfirst two NCAA Tournament victories withwins over Washington in 2003 and NewMexico in 2007.Borseth coached a number of the mostlegendary players in the program’s storiedhistory, including the top two all-timeleading scorers, Chari Nordgaard andNicole Soulis. He also recruited recentstandouts Celeste Hoewisch, KaylaTetschlag and Julie Wojta to Green Bayand coached Hoewisch during her redshirtcampaign in 2006-07.In 2012-13, Green Bay will return fourstarters from a 31-2 team that won theHorizon League regular season and tournamenttitles and advanced to the secondround of the NCAA Tournament.
