Three awards programs have been designed for the 2006 Nobel Biocare World Tour conference. 

The accepted entries will be displayed in the conference area so you can view them 

throughout the meeting. Take the opportunity to check out the amazing results of the Creative 

Circle awards, the outstanding clinical documentation of the C&B&I award competition 

and the fantastic research reports from the poster programs. 

Poster Program 

For the poster program individuals submit a structured abstract and report of a basic or 

applied research project, or a detailed explanation of a clinical technique or technology used 

in patient therapy. The accepted entries are displayed on large-scale posters where the findings 

are presented together with high quality photos documenting the project. 

C&B&I awards 

The C&B&I competition is divided into three different categories of clinicians. The participants 

have submitted documentation of the rehabilitation of a patient using treatment procedures 

involving crowns and bridges and implants with Nobel Biocare products. The report 

can be supported by up to eight digital photographs of the therapy. 

Creative Circle awards 

The Creative Circle competition is designed to demonstrate beauty and esthetics in dental 

ceramics. Individuals have submitted documentations of their best ceramic rehabilitation 

using the NobelRondo veneering porcelain. The patient summary includes a description of 

the treatment performed together with up to twelve digital photographs of the restorations. 

Award ceremony 

The award ceremony honoring the most outstanding entries is held on Saturday afternoon 

during the general program. Don’t miss the chance to see if the judges shared your views on 

the displayed posters and award entries.

79 completed a postgraduate

Dentistry from Baylor 

College USA in 1995. He 

has many presentations and hands-on courses 

both nationally as well as internationally to his 

credit. He’s also written many articles in various 

journals. Dr Bhatia is a member of Indian 

Dental Association and Accredited member of 

Indian Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic 

Dentistry (IAACD). He is an immediate past 

President of Indian Academy of Aesthetic and 

Cosmetic Dentistry and member of IAO and 

ISOI, and a Diplomate of The International 

Congress of Oral Implantology. (ICOI) .he is a 

faculty of ENCODE (Mumbai). And SMILEIN- 

DIA (Delhi). He is a member of Dental Council 

of Maharashtra He is the man responsible for 

the beautiful smiles of many celebrities including 

former Ms Universe Lara Dutta. Currently 

he has a high profile practice in Juhu, Mumbai, 

with special emphasis on Implant logy and 

cosmetic Dentistry. 

DR. AJIT SHETTY 

Dr.Ajit Shetty walked into 

the Government Dental 

College in 1973 and 

walked out in 1980 with a 

graduate degree in dentistry 

and a post graduate 

degree in Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, little 

realising that this incurable romantacist had 

left behind a host of the fairer sex with their 

hearts in their mouth. He is one of the founder 

members of the Indian Academy of Aesthetic 

and Cosmetic Dentistry (IAACD) and the 

Indian Institute of Continuing Education and 

Research. He lent his mite to the Indian Dental 

Association, being the President of the 

Bombay branch in 1994. He is today a most 

wanted speaker on the dental scene in India, 

with the audience looking forward to sample 

his inimitable wit and humour. Dr. Shetty soon 

found the science of Implantology to his liking 

and in a very short span of time, devoured all 

that was available in the country and was travelling 

abroad, learning all about Implants. 

Within a few years he has established himself 

as one of the leading Implantologists of the 

country and is the founder member of the 

Indian Society of Oral Implantologists. He is 

involved in fullscale teaching programs to 

spread and train aspiring dentists to include 

Implants in their dental practice.

Mumbai scientific committee 

DR. SHOBHA TANDON 

She is one of the pioneers 

in the field of pediatric 

dentistry in India. Having 

completed graduation 

(1971) and post graduation 

(1973) from 

K.G.M.C., Lucknow, she moved all the way 

down South where she laid the foundation of 

this specialty, which is 5th in India and first in 

South India. Since then she has nurtured the 

department as her own child and dedicated 

herself to Pedodontics and Preventive 

Dentistry. The department has blossomed from 

a seed to a full-grown tree, under her leadership. 

Today many of her students (under graduates 

and post graduates) are well-established 

academicians and clinicians, in India as well as 

abroad.She has been a guide for the post 

graduate students for 21 years .Her interest in 

academics and research work has encouraged 

poatgraduates to carry out 50 studies.She has 

also supervised ICMR projects. She has served 

as Vice –Dean in the institution from the year 

1997-2001. With the vast teaching experience 

of 33 years she took up the post of Dean of 

institution. She has given a new uplift to the 

college by introducing Courses such as 

Implant Dentistry and Aesthetic Dentistry. 

Revival of Msc.Dental Material and Dental 

mechanic courses has been done by her so 

that the underprevilaged students can also 

enter professional college.Under her leadership 

the college has been accredited by NAG, 

Malaysian Dental Association and recently the 

inspection has been carried out fro the accred- 

ition by Clifornian Dental Board. Proceedings 

are taking place in the college to get ISO 

recognition by April 2006.Along with her academic 

work she never looked back and making 

the institution more student friendly by 

improving the infrastructure of all the departments,labs 

and lecture halls. Dr,Tandon has 

been awarded the Star Pedodontist award for 

her dedicated efforts and distinguished services 

in the field of Pediatric Dentistry by the 

Indian Society Of Pedodontics and Preventive 

Dentistry at the Annual Conference held at 

Kolkata November 2004. She has attended 18 

international conferences and 36 national conferences 

and received 12 awards of excellence. 

Apart from being an eminent pedodontist she 

also holds a special place for working towards 

the upliftment of Women in India and around 

the world. She has always been a promoter of 

women leadership in Dentistry and was an 

active participant and speaker at the IInd 

World Congress held in Sweden 2003 and III 

rd Cogress in Montreal 2005 held by American 

Dental education Assocition .She is a representative 

of India to promote Indian Women 

Leadership on the global map. Apart from this 

she was also invited as a key speaker on 

Women’s General and Oral Health in 

Malaysia.She is a versatile personality and has 

traveled through out the globe .She is a Life as 

well as Ordinary member of many National as 

well as International Academic Associations 

and Board of Studies.She holds eminent position 

in these academic bodies as reviewer of 

academics, paper setter,and an examier in

Implantology, which she has been practising 

for the past 10 years. A specialized area of

was ‘ An in-vitro SEM study of microleakage 

between composite resin and porcelain laminate 

veneers'. Upon completing my master’s 

degree, in 1993 I went into full-time private 

practice with an emphasis on Fixed and 

Removable Prosthodontics, which I still maintain.

years in the USA where he

Laboratory for Applied Periodontal and 

Craniofacial Regeneration at Temple University, 

School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. He gained 

his BDS and MDS from the University of 

Otago, and was in full-time private practice 

limited to dental implants and periodontics in 

New Zealand prior to his academic appointment 

in the USA. While in the USA, he was 

involved in teaching implant dentistry and 

periodontics at postgraduate level. He has 

been involved in preclinical and clinical 

research involving GTR/GBR and dental 

implants since 1991, has authored numerous 

articles and lectured both nationally and internationally 

on topics related to tissue regeneration 

therapy. Most recently, he has been 

involved in research using bone morphogenic 

proteins (BMP’s) for periodontal and alveolar 

regeneration. Since returning to New Zealand, 

Dr Danesh-Meyer founded the Institute of 

Dental Implants and Periodontics in 

Newmarket, Auckland. Dr Danesh-Meyer

Dr. Jonathan Ferencz 

graduated from 

Rensselaer Polytechnic

in 1972 where he has taught pre-clinical, 

undergraduate clinical and post-doctoral 

prosthodontics. In 1990, Dr. Ferencz became

Active in dental organizations for many years, 

Dr. Ferencz became a Fellow of the Greater 

New York Academy of Prosthodontics in 1984 

and served as its President in 1995. He 

became a Fellow of the Northeastern 

Gnathological Society in 1988 and its President 

in 1995 and 1996. He has served in many leadership 

positions in the American College of 

Prosthodontists and was its President in 2003. 

In addition, Dr. Ferencz is a Fellow of the 

Academy of Prosthodontics, New York Academy 

of Dentistry and a member of the American 

Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the 

American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. In

teaching at NYU, Dr. Ferencz has been very

DR. SONIA LEZIY 

Sonia Leziy, DDS received 

her DDS from McGill

DR. STEVE PAREL 

Dr. Parel is a Diplomate

Prof. Dr. J. R. Strub, born in

Lefebvre is a Diplomate of the American Board 

of Prosthodontics, a Fellow in the Academy of 

Prosthodontics and the American College of 

Prosthodontists, and a member of the American 

Dental Education Association, American Association 

of Dental Research and the International 

Association of Dental Research. She is the Editor 

of The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr. Lefebvre 

was recently selected as a 2005–2006 fellow in 

the ELAM (Executive Leadership in Academic 

Medicine) program. 

DR. REGINA MERICSKE- 

STERN 

Regina Mericske-Stern is 

currently the Director and 

Chairman of the 

Department of Prosthodontics, 

University of Bern. 

She completed her graduate training in 

Restorative Dentistry and in Prosthodontics in 

Bern and Toronto, and in Oral Surgery in Basle. 

She received her Ph.D in Bern. She is still a frequent 

guest professor of the University of Toronto. 

She is a Specialist in Prosthodontics (SSRD) and 

in Implantology (SGI) and frequently lectures at 

international meetings on these topics. 

Her teaching obligations are tooth- and implantsupported 

prostheses and geriatric dentistry. The 

students elected her «Teacher of the Year». She 

is a member of various national and international 

societies, board member and president elect of 

the International College of Prosthodontics (ICP) 

the President of the Scientific Committee of the 

Swiss Society for Reconstructive Dentistry (SSRD) 

and President Elect of the Swiss Society of Oral 

Implantology (SSOI). Her activities, both in clinical 

practice and clinical research, cover the field 

of oral implantology/implant prosthodontics and 

geriatric dentistry. These are represented in various 

publications, abstracts and book chapters. 

DR. PETER K. MOY 

Dr. Moy received his dental 

degree from the University 

of Pittsburgh, a certificate in 

General Practice Residency 

from Queen’s Medical 

Center in Honolulu, Hawaii 

and his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial 

Surgery from UCLA Hospital and Medical Center 

.He presently limits his practice to Oral and 

Maxillofacial Surgery focusing primarily in the 

areas of Osseointegrated dental implants and the 

reconstruction of the severely atrophic ridges. He 

is currently on staff in the departments of Oral 

and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as Hospital 

Dentistry at UCLA. He is also the Co-director of 

the UCLA Dental Implant Center. Dr.Moy has written 

numerous articles related to Implant Dentistry 

and Osseointegration, specifically, on bone grafting 

and augmentation procedures for the 

atrophic ridges. He has lectured nationally and 

internationally, most recently at the 98th Annual 

Meeting of the American Association of Oral and 

Maxillofacial Surgeons. He established and maintains 

his private practice in theWest Coast Center 

for Osseointegration located in Brentwood, 

California.


DR. MASSIMO SIMION 

Professor Massimo 

Simion is Chairman 

of the Department of 

Periodontology and 

Implant Restoration at 

the Dental School of the 

University of Milan. He is a founder of the 

Italian Society of Osseontegration and one of 

the first experts in implant surgery in Italy. 

Actually, he is an Active Member and Vice- 

President of the Italian Society of Periodontology 

(SidP) for the years 2003– 2005. He is 

Member of the Board of the European 

Association for Osseointegration (EAO) since 

1998 and he has been President of the same 

Association from the years 2001 to 2003. As a 

referee of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 

Professor Simion evaluate papers related 

to the topic Osseointegration. He published 

several papers and is considered one of the 

most quoted international lecturer about the 

topic Periodontology, Osseointegration and 

bone regeneration. 

DR. MASAO YAMAZAKI 

Dr. Masao Yamazaki 

received his DDS degree 

from Tokyo Dental 

College in 1970. He is the 

Founder and current 

Director of the Society of 

Japan Clinical Dentistry. Dr. Yamazaki is the 

author of The Esthetic Restorative Treatment – 

The Management For The Complex Prosthesis 

– Quintessence Publishing Co. Dr. Yamazaki 

maintains a full-time private practice in Tokyo 

focusing on esthetic restorative dentistry and 

Implant dentistry.
