Arjan Stegeman is hoogleraar Gezondheidszorg Landbouwhuisdieren in de
Faculteit der Diergeneeskunde van de Universiteit Utrecht en voorzitter van
het gelijknamige departement. Zijn onderzoek concentreert zich op de
epidemiologie van infectieziekten bij landbouwdieren.
Arjan Stegeman studeerde diergeneeskunde aan de Universiteit Utrecht. In
1989 trad hij in dienst bij de Gezondheidsdienst voor Dieren. Hij deed daar
onder meer onderzoek naar de invloed van vaccinatie op de verspreiding van
het Aujeszkyvirus op varkensbedrijven. Dit onderzoek resulteerde in 1995 in
een proefschrift. Van 1995 tot 2000 werkte hij als veterinair epidemioloog bij
het Instituut voor Dierhouderij en Diergezondheid in Lelystad. In deze
periode maakte hij de varkenspest epidemie van nabij mee. Vervolgens trad
hij in dienst bij de Faculteit Diergeneeskunde, eerst als senior
docent/onderzoeker en vervolgens als hoogleraar. Arjan Stegeman is
geregistreerd als epidemioloog onderzoeker bij de Stichting Medisch
Biologische Wetenschappen (SMBWO) en diplomate van het European
College of Veterinary Public Health.
