The inconsistent effects ondifferent cultivars would, for example, make it difficult to exploit the fungicide efficiently unless they couldalso be predicted. Progress toward this is unlikely without a better understanding of the mechanism bywhich azoxystrobin decreases take-all.The objects of the project described in this report were, therefore, to confirm and extend the initial findingsreported by Jenkyn et al. (2000), and to explore the potential for azoxystrobin to contribute to the practicalmanagement of take-all in wheat. It had the following specific objectives:(a)(b)To confirm evidence that azoxystrobin applied as a foliar spray can decrease takeallin wheat.To seek evidence to help explain the mechanism by which azoxystrobin decreasestake-all in wheat.7
