WHy CHOOsE sMa CME? Some of the guidelines this activity will address include: new guidelines for the therapy of hypertension to better prevent cardiovascular disease in women; diagnosis of headache type; anxiety and identifying the patient with addiction; and new information about osteoporosis management. New FDA regulations will direct how providers order opiod therapy. Providers of care need knowledge of these changes to fulfill the practice guidelines in caring for their female patients. These topics and others of importance will be incorporated in this conference to address gaps in knowledge and competence for the improved care of women. PUrPOsE This activity will discuss evidence relating to diagnosis, management guidelines, and new and controversal therapies of common diseases in women with an emphasis on practical clinical knowledge. The wide scope of the conference addressing women’s health relating to cardiovascular diseases, dermatologic problems, common psychiatric illnesses, and pain management in addition to a specialty track for obstetrics and gynecology is unique. The topics are selected by a needs assessment and review of the current literature. TargET aUDIENCE Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses specializing or certified in the areas of women’s health, gynecology, obstetrics, internal medicine, family or general medicine, geriatric medicine, emergency medicine, and preventive medicine should attend this conference. Other specialists treating a female patient population may also benefit from the wide array of topics presented during the conference. LEarNINg OBJECTIvEs Through a combination of evidence-based didactic lectures, case presentations, and faculty and audience Q&A and interaction, attendees will have the opportunity to gather and exchange information regarding current and emerging treatments in the top health threats and common complaints particular to women.
