SPORTS REPORTIndividual AchievementsCongratulations to Asha Till for her success at the recent Karate World Championships in Sydney. Asha won theGirls Black Belt Team Sparring title and also received a second place for Karate Sumo.This is a wonderful result for Asha. We look forward to hearing <strong>of</strong> future successes.Mrs Tyrell Harding, Director <strong>of</strong> SportsIRC REPORTRAGE members attend the Inky awards15 lucky members <strong>of</strong> RAGE attended the Inkyfest at the State Library <strong>of</strong> Victoria on 25 th October. The daycommenced with a dramatisation <strong>of</strong> the kidnap scene from Stolen, the winner <strong>of</strong> last year’s Golden Inky Award. JaneHiggins, author <strong>of</strong> The Bridge, talked to us about how she was inspired to write her first novel for young adults and <strong>of</strong>her interest in the lives <strong>of</strong> young people today.Penny Tangey then entertained everyone with her amusing stories about herself as a young girl keen to become agreat novelist, however, it was only when she went to Washington with her partner and found herself unemployed thatshe found the time to write her first novel, Loving Richard Feynman, an amusing story about a girl who falls in lovewith a poster <strong>of</strong> famous physicist, Richard Feynman.After a short break the judges <strong>of</strong> the Inky Awards explained the judging process. All agreed that one <strong>of</strong> the best thingsabout being a judge was receiving 20 free books to read.In the third session after lunch Fiona Wood talked about her experiences as a script writer for television shows suchas Neighbours compared with her experience as a writer. She commented that writing for television is like going to aparty while writing a book is like going on a date.Tristan Bancks then amused us with his story about how he had his appendix removed as a way <strong>of</strong> avoiding detentionwith the school librarian.
