CHAIN AND CHISELMORTISER, M.F.1.2.Heavy rigid construction to withstand hard usage,and give reliable working under all conditions.Chain and chisel headstocks side by side and eachimtantly available; no time lost changing fromchain to chisel or vice versa.3. Headstocks are direct motorised and automaticallycontrolled. Tools start running justbefore entering the timber and stop immediatelyon withdrawal.4. Chips from the chain are collected by built-infan and exhausted at the side 0/ the machine.Blower removes chips fr01ll chisel and keepsmarking Ollt lines always visible.The MachineThe Machine is of substantial constructionthroughout and is built to precision standards ofengineering.The TableThe Table is rigidly supported on a heavy bracket,carried on wide machined slides. The rise and fallmovement is obtained by powerful handwheeloperating gearing which is protected against dust.Table has longitudinal movement by handwhee1and rack and pinion, also cross traverse by handwheeland screw. The weight of the table istaken by a ball thrust bearing and all movementsdesigned for easy operation.The ClampThe hand operated Clamp is both quick andpowerful in action. Clamping action is downwardsto prevent timber lifting and check rod keepsclamp face always square with the job. If required,a clamp operated by compressed air can be suppliedat increased price.The Chain HeadstockThe Chain Headstock moves in machined slidewaysand is controlled by adjustable right-handlever. Motor is an integral part of the headstockand built on to the mortising spindle.Selfadjusting, hinged, chain guard and chipbreaker,together with exhaust fan to discharge chips, areall embodied on the headstock. Chisels are held inthe headstock by a powerful split grip, providingthe utmost rigidity to the chisel.Depth StopsDepth Stops are provided on both headstocks toregulate the depth of mortising. They arc quicklyadjustable to give any depth of mortise.Semi-Auto Chain GrinderSemi-Auto Chain Grinder as shown in the illustrationopposite is included with the machine.The ratchet feature ensures correct sharpening ofeach link, and makes re~grinding an easy andwww.wadkin.comfool~proof operation.The MotorsThe Motors are of special mechanical constructionusing rotor and stator units, and arc supplied foralternating current only, of two or three phase50 or 60 cycles. They are mounted directly onthe chain and chisel spindles giving the maximumpower to the cutting tools with the minimum oftransmission losses. Belts are entirely abolished.Each motor is of the ball bearing type and ofample power for taking the maximum cuts in hardand soft wood.info@wadkin.com3

The control gear is providedwith overload releases, and inherently givesno-volt protection. Each motor is automaticallystarted when the hand levers are disengagedfrom the catch, and stop running when the handlevers are returned to their original position.This feature increases the life of the cutting tools,eliminates any risk of danger to the operator andalso prevents any possibility of the work beingdamaged when being placcd in position orremoved.The starting and stopping is effected by theheadstocks operating a comrol which opens andcloses the main contactor.
