<strong>Pellet</strong> <strong>Boiler</strong> Sizing: Annual <strong>Energy</strong> Usage• Use annual energy amount to calculate required boiler output level• Approach can be used based on oil heating or electric heating• Oil Usage Procedure:(1) Determine average annual oil consumption for last 3 yearsex. 3 m3 oil/year (= 3000 li / 3.875 li / gal = 900 gals/yr)(2) Calculate total energy effectively used for heating (Assume 70% overall efficiency):= 900 (gal/yr) x 140,000 Btu/gal x 70% = 88,200,000 Btu/yr(3) Determine mean boiler size by dividing total Btu’s produced by annual operating hours(See next page)= 88,200,000 / 2500 (residential home) = 35,300 Btu/hrTraining documentation Slide Nr. 27: 11/2007
