SERVICE Each month the third graders of Ascension School have decorated placemats for PADS for the 4 th Sunday of the month dinner. Ascension Parish is responsible for preparing and serving the dinner. Linda Dunn, Carol Doody, and I have coordinated this for the past few years. I have seen how much the guests appreciate the children’s art work. Often a guest will take their placemat with them as a keepsake. I am hoping that next year we can expand this project and make placemats that can be used during our PADS Summer Lunch Program. Here are the comments from my 3 rd grade class regarding our PADS placemats: 1. Do you think the guests at the meal enjoyed receiving the placemats? How does it show them that we care about them? We think that the guests love them and are glad that we take the time to make the placemats. The placemats are more welcoming than just the table. It shows that we took time and effort to show that we care. 2. Why do you think it is important to show that we care about people who are in need? The guests go through a lot in their lives and everyone is important and it is good to think of other people. Maybe it will help them feel better and good. 3. What have you learned at Ascension about the importance of being a person of service? By helping others you feel good inside. When you do something nice for someone they are nice in return. 4. Can you imagine what it must be like to not have a home? What are your thoughts? In the winter it must be super cold. If you do not have food you could starve and that would not be nice. Religious Education Registration for Fall All families who were registered in the Ascension Religious Education program last year, or new families who requested registration forms, will be receiving a registration packet in the mail this week. Please return the registration form as soon as possible. Mail or drop off the completed forms to the Parish Center. You may also register in person after all Masses during Registration Weekend, August 27 and 28. All families are encouraged to send in their registration by September 1 to avoid a $25 late fee. Please note: the deadline for current Catechesis of the Good Shepherd students is August 22. We will make available any openings in these sessions on August 23 to accommodate new students.
