Back Yard Theology This Tuesday This summer’s Back Yard Theology series focuses on faith and art. We begin this Tuesday, July 19, with Beholding the Spiritual in Art. Though previous ages found the most-acclaimed artists producing work for the Church, the relationship between art and religion is currently more tenuous. Religious art tends to be illustrative; artists are accused of borrowing religious motives and using them in ways that believers find offensive. For the past five years, Jerry Bleem, O.F.M., has written a monthly column for U. S. Catholic magazine entitled Eye of the Beholder. The simple format--an image of an artwork with a brief text--seeks to be respectful of the piece's production while teasing out its spiritual themes. Friar Jerry will discuss his experience of writing this column and the perspectives he brings as a priest, artist and teacher. Plan to be there at 7:30 p.m. in the Pine Room. Medical Assistance Items Needed It’s a little bit late for spring cleaning, however, if you have extra canes, walkers, or other devices laying around the house, Our Lady of Resurrection Hospital would greatly appreciate the donation of these items to be used by patients. Household Furniture, Clothing, etc. also Needed Very often, we receive inquiries about accepting furniture and clothing when people are moving or they no longer need the items because of a death in the family. Catholic Charities’ Refugee Program is always looking for items for people who arrive in the area with just two suitcases. If you are able to help, please send an email to ssjarad@yahoo.com who can assist in getting the items where they need to go or call Catholic Charities direct, 708-652-2277. Parish Update Information If you receive our “Parish E-Newsletter” you know that we are starting to work on creating a new Parish Directory. We have found in going through our parish data is that so much of the information has changed. So in an effort to make any publication as accurate as possible, we are asking everyone to please inform us of the following: Has your address changed? Do you still use a land line phone? If not, can we have a cell phone number where we can reach you? Did you have a baby that we don’t list as part of your family? Do we have a current email address for you or your family members? Teens? Have your children moved out of the house? (If your adult children are in the area, they should register on their own. It will be cheaper for them when they want to get married.) As you can tell, we are looking for any updated information that you can provide.
