PERFORMANCEThe Series 5000 Curve Tracer provides quick creation of digital curves for storage and inuitivemanipulation. Curves are generated using a high speed ATE system.Model 5000CHigh resolution assures tests like RDSON to anaccuracy of ± 0.5 milliohm at 1 A test current.LabView ® is a registered trademark or trademark of National Instruments.3

PROGRAMMINGProgramming the data points on thecurve tracer is simple and direct. Fig.1 shows an IDON vs VDS programscreen for an N-Channel MOSFET.The maximum limit for the measuredvariable, IDON, is the top line entry. When the maximum limit is reached, data capture terminates and the curveis complete. The horizontal axis is VDSand is programmable in increments. Two different increment sizes can beprogrammed. This allows the user toprogram finer data points in the areaof interest in the curve. In the exampleshown, the first increment size is 400MV; the second increment size is 4V.The increment size changes at VDSof 4V. VDS range is programmed from10MV to 40V. VGS data points can beprogrammed similarly. The curve is runby sweeping the VDS data points ateach VGS bias voltage and continuesuntil the maximum ID is obtained ateach VGS or until all data points havebeen reported.Additional tabs provide user selectablefeatures. Tabs can be selected byclicking on a function near the top of theCurve Tracer screen: Load/Save for recalland saving programs, Sweep Type toselect linear or logarithmic axes whereappropriate, Ext. Relays to set relaydrivers to connect external components,ADP-401A to set pin connectionswhen the curve tracer is used with anADP401A 8 or 16 pin programmablescanner, and Misc. Controls to loada completed curve and data pointsdirectly to Excel with the graphautomatically included. The datapoints can also be graphed in otherformats provided by Excel.A number of graphing features arealso included. The mouse can be used tozoom in on a specific area of the curve.Cursors can be moved on a completedcurve to re-set start and stop limits tore-generate the curve in greater detailin an area of interest. Clicking on anaxis will change the scale from linearto logarithmic. Clicking on a curve willshow all data points on the curve.6

CURVE SUITEA suite of curves can be generated using a group of previously saved curve programs. The curves are runin sequence automatically without the intervention of an operator other than to start the curve sequence.See Figures 10 thru 15. Individual graphs are displayed on the screen as the curves are generated; curvedata points are automatically loaded into Excel along with the captured graph. Graphs can be viewed inorder by clicking the “View Next” button.Figure 10 Figure 1112
