This familybusiness has supported more than ten differentprojects, including ones in Sudan, Nicaragua andthe Middle East – as well as sending a team to the<strong>CAFOD</strong> sports quiz hosted by Dermot O’Leary.Nick Pickthall, Managing Director of CPL Aromas’Latin America office, and his team shared theirexpertise with one of <strong>CAFOD</strong>’s partners – smallcleaning business, APOIO.For women like Luz Mila, who was forced to flee hervillage after violence and death threats, a job in asmall business is a lifeline out of poverty. Projectco-ordinator Lorena Yucieth Proaños Hernandezexplains how CPL Aromas has helped them todevelop the business:“They have taught the small business that thewhole world turns around the sense of smell.The business has been given a new lease of lifeand members are playing with the formulas intheir products to improve them. Many of ourmembers go home to houses with no roof orbeds. But just because people are poor, doesn’tmean they don’t have big dreams or aspirations.”3

They covered 100km to raisemoney for <strong>CAFOD</strong> and a local charity. Suppliers,customers, parishes, families and friends allcontributed to a grand total of over £32,000.Forge Europa has now joined with buildingsustainability and environmental consultancy B:SSECto support our ground-breaking, Community-BasedGreen Energy Programme in Kenya. It’s a perfectmatch with both their business interests. In a countrywhere 90% of rural communities do not have accessto electricity, their donations will bring solar powerto schools, health centres and community projects.Clara Nkete from Zambia has seen first handhow green energy projects have helpedtransform lives in her community.“<strong>CAFOD</strong> helped us buy the solar panel to pumpthe water.
