General - Person_IDs2011 Higher Education Summit/SUS Data Workshop – IRMJune 16, 2011, 8:00 - 3:00Description: University ID instead of SSNTopic ID: 50-7Initiator: Board-IRMAffects: All submissions that include Person_Demo tableThe current PERSON_ID field contains SSN when available. The same Person_ID is required on alltables. Beginning with the July 2012 submissions and pending additional discussion with dataadministrators and university CIOs, we would add University_ID to the PERSON_DEMO table and allchild tables should contain University_ID instead of Person_ID. What should the characteristics of thisnew field be? General - SSN Randomization2011 Higher Education Summit/SUS Data Workshop – IRMJune 16, 2011, 8:00 - 3:00Description: SSN Randomization beginning 6/25/2011Topic ID: 50-10Initiator: Board-IRMAffects: All submissions that include Person_Demo tableEffective 6/25/2011: SSN randomization will affect the SSN assignment process in the following ways:1-It will eliminate the geographical significance of the first three digits of the SSN, currently referred to asthe area number, by no longer allocating the area numbers for assignment to individuals in specific states.2-It will eliminate the significance of the highest group number and, as a result, the High Group List willbe frozen in time and can be used for validation of SSNs issued prior to the randomizationimplementation date.3-Previously unassigned area numbers will be introduced for assignment excluding area numbers 000,666 and 900-http://www.socialsecurity.gov/employer/randomization.htmlAs a result the edit for a valid SSN (1005-Person_ID must contain a valid SSN if PID_Valid_SSN is Y) willbegin to trigger on more and more students. Is there any reason to continue this edit?
